Harvey's Story
UPDATE: ANTONE LOOKING FOR ME CHECK FACEBOOK CHICAGO ILLINOIS. SEE YOU THERE.
I'll start my story from when I was a student at Walter Reed. I was a part of a group of story writers, drawers and sports fans consisting of Erik Minor, Tyrone Tribble (who I ran into at Chicago State[we went to Philidelphi Church of God in Christ]) his sister Yvonne, James Young, Kenneth Jenkins,(thanks KJ & JY) Lavorga, Leonard Loving, Tracy Winston, Felisha Palmer, Tasha Cook and her brother John Stegall[Forgive spelling].
After graduation in 79 I left for Lindblom with Erik, James, Linda Kelly and later Robert Williams (I think) and Dorothy Webster. There I hung out with Erik, Dexter Turner, Micheal Thompson, Nedrick Jones and Paul Cunningham. We used to go over comic books and play the dozens (signifing aka talking about mothers). Those were some serious battles back then. One memory that I had was clowning around in Mr. Powells chemistry class with Glenn ( I forgot his last name) and the girls namely McMath and the girl she hung around with, Mc something. That was when the gangs used to come by the school and try to take the Lindblom's students property. Needless to say most of us in my group weren't having any of that.
This lead to me going to Englewood in 1981 where I had to make up for my craziness (fighting and cutting class for the signifing battles) and I'm happy to say that I made it out in 83 when I was suppose to. I didn't hang out with too many people at the time but I still knew a lot of them from Walter Reed. I did hang around Kenneth Jenkins, Steve McDonald, Thadious Williams and Vernard Gullespi. I was quiet during the 1st half of school but was a clown for the second half namely in Horticulture class with Ms. Miller and Radio TV where Mr. I forgot his name used to say I couldn't do what I wanted because the school didn't have the equipment for that. My last year (in Feb. 83)I signed up for the delayed entry program and with the help of Sgt. Jones (RIP) he got me ready for basic training at Ft. Sill OK.
There I completed basic and AIT graduating as a 93F Field Artillery Meteorologist. From there I went to Augsburg Germany's HHB 17th BDE. The people in the section while I was there were Dexter Smith, McGarry, Anthony Kathey, Kryder, Burger, Robert Payne, Sp5 Scott, Mr.Dave Shark...Expand for more
ey(WO1), Rothsond, Sgt.s Tankersley, Pelliteir, Lundsford and Dangerous Darryl Brown. We used to consider ourselves the best Met section in Germany cause we never made a mistake or have to recall a met message. They used to say this was because of the great training by the last WO Mr. Coatney and Johnny O. Sawyer. While there I hung out with Darren Bush, William P. Brown, Larry Weathersby, Gerald Matherson, Spc. George, McLauglin, Diane Thompson and from 29th Postal Gwen Dee Morris just to name a few.
After getting out in 86 and clowning around at home I re-uped in 87 and returned to Germany. There I was stationed at HHB Divarty 3AD's Metro Section. In this section was SSG Geoffrey Taft, WO John P. Wilson, a female named Davis, Dianne Mills, An, John Hulse, Kit Logan, Rodney D. Stafford, Rodney Pickens, Jeffery Thomas, Johnny Marsh, Cleveland Zeigler, Cho and the 3 SFC that ended up working in S3. I forgot their names. While there I used to hang out with Spc William (Medic), Ronnie K. Conrad, Belgon, Mendoza(Sting), Walker and others. I used to have parties in the dayroom and kept movies. After my time was up in 90 I got stationed at Ft. Campbell K.Y. with the 101st. We didn't interact too much with the unit because we started running met flights around 4am. My section member were Willie Carruthers, McBroom, Amrmstrong, Jones, Wyette, Sgt's Payne-bee and Vick and a few others I forgot. This is the section that I went to the Gulf with. After returning from the states I got out and started college. First I went to Kennedy-King where I got my Associates then Chicago-State where I got my B.A. During my college years I worked with various social service organizations as a teacher or case manager for people with physical or mental issues. I worked with children placed in DCFS custody, gangbangers, babies born with drugs in their system, teen mothers, the homeless and people with all types of addictions. After graduation I became an archivst/ video editor for the HistoryMakers. You can check out the website. From there I went for a more stable job with the State of Illinois as an inspector. I work evenings and my area is the entire south side of Chicago. I've been doing this since 2007. That's it for now. If I forgot anyone, sorry bout that. You can hit me up here though.
