Heather's Story
Life
Once I finished college and after 4 years of teaching in Houston and carrying on a long-distance relationship, I moved to Scotland in August 2004 to start my life with my fiance, Brian. We were married in July 2005 at Culcreuch Castle in Fintry, Scotland.
After spending two years living and working in the UK, Brian and I decided to move back to Texas in summer of 2006. I got my old job back, but Brian had to stay behind to get the house ready to sell. The folks at his job were fantastic - when he told them he was leaving to move to the U.S., his boss secretly started working the higher-ups to authorize Brian to keep his job and work remotely from Houston. He finally got everything sorted out with his visa, and he arrived in late September 2007. Since then, we've been busy doing fun things like relearning how to be a married couple, furnishing our apartment, and adopting kitties.
In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, reading, traveling, going to the movies, and playing World of Warcraft (yes, I'm still a total dork!).
Drop me a line because I'd love to hear from you!
School
I still haven't been able to escape...Expand for more
from high school since I'm a teacher! I moved over to Cy-Fair ISD last year, and it's great. I must say that I like school much better from this side of the big teacher's desk. The best parts about high school: Mrs. Bernstein (I keep in touch with her - she's still as cynical as ever, god love her!); the Lunch Bunch (Amber, Brad, Suzie, and Jessip); mayhem in Mrs. Gerkin's Chemistry class with Sandie Strickland, Scot Snodgrass, and Jace Waggoner (breaking glass and exploding potions, oh my!); and the disturbing dissections with the aforementioned lab partners in Mrs. Jensen's Bio II class the following year. CRIVENS!
College
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double-BA in English and History and a minor in Secondary Education from SHSU in May 2000.
I was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and I served as Historian for one year. I was in Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society. (Thanks to Chaplain Dan, I was also an honorary member of the TKE fraternity, but I don't think that would carry much weight on a resume.)
I won several writing awards and a couple of scholarships from the History department at SHSU.
