Heather's Story
Life
I graduated from AHF in 1988, and went to UCONN right after, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, with an archaeology concentration. I worked for an archaeology firm out of the university for a couple of years, and decided to head as far south as I could get without crossing the Mississippi River. So - graduate school in Louisiana at Louisiana State University! After having a great time in Louisiana, in 1997 I recieved a Master's Degree in Anthropology with a concentration in historical archaeology (after doing field research and writing my thesis on two sites I worked on in the Bahamas - 18th century cotton plantations...I figured if I had to work that hard doing physical labor for my degree, I might as well be in the Caribbean while I was doing it!)
In 1997, I got my first "real" c...Expand for more
areer job as the archaeology laboratory supervisor at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest - a Jefferson house museum site in central Virginia (it's 90 miles south of Monticello). I worked there for 5 1/2 years, until I moved to the Raleigh, North Carolina area while my then fiance was going to North Carolina State University for a Master's in Landscape Architecture.
I met Evan Miller in 2000 while I was working at Poplar Forest, and we have been together ever since. We married in 2004, and lived in a great house just southwest of Raleigh along with three cats and a dog.
In January of 2008, our son Owen William was born. He's now 14 months old and keeping me VERY busy chasing him around! Evan is a professional landscape architect in Durham, while I work as a senior archaeologist for a company in Chapel Hill.
