Heather's Story

Life After high school I finished my associate's at UVSC and then served a mission to the Canary Islands 2001-2003, where I got this cool nickname hmsgofita. For my hot mail dot com account! The summer I returned I met my husband Archie at my single's ward and we were married in December of 2003. We immediately moved to Portland, Oregon where he took a job and I went back to school at Portland State University where I will graduate from in June 2007 with my bachelor's in Applied Linguistics and Spanish. We recently moved back to Utah as Archie took another job last November. I enjoyed living in Oregon and all the beauties that it has to offer. We also own two beautiful kitties Frodo and Wolfgang. So now we're back in Utah and enjoying it as well. College College was never my thing as far as the social aspect went. I went to UVSC right after high school for two years before I went on my mission. I hung out at the institute, but I never went to the local single's ward. I had a boyfriend at the time so most of my social time was with him or my family. So I went to a couple of dances. And I had friends from work I hung out with. So I pretty much...Expand for more
just went to school for class, work, home, boyfriend, or family, and studied! As for Portland State I was already married and I attended some institute classes so basically school classes and home for studying. Though, going to PSU allowed me to get to know a lot of different types of people and ideas. That part was an awesome experience that I'll never forget. I also went to Guatemala for three weeks for 8 credits for my Spanish degree working with indigenous school communities! It was amazing. The people are so humble and poor, yet have so much life and are so sweet and loving despite the constant discrimination by their own government. I also spent two weeks working with people with disabilities at a summer camp as part of my general requirements. It was a unique experience to work with them and I learned a lot from them more than I taught in return! Awesome and yet the hardest two weeks of my life, besides the first two weeks in the MTC! So college at PSU gave me a whole new perspective of life and the world. And it was the first time I was discriminated against a couple of times for my religion too! College was way better than high school!
