Heather's Story
Life
I graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1997 and stayed out here in California. I was married in October, 1998 to Mike. Our son Andrew was born in 2/2004. I currently work as an electric estimator for the utility company.
Workplace
Well, after college I got a job as a software engineer for a large silicon valley chip company. Bad idea. I quickly learned that I hate writing code. But before I got motivated enough to leave I was laid off. The .com boom was in full swing then and I hooked up with a comparison shopping web site that was owned by a major search engine....Expand for more
I did data modeling there and had a great time until the search engine company decided they wanted out of the comparison shopping business and shut us down. At that point the .com bust was going on and jobs were scarce. So I changed directions a bit and got hired by the (at the time) bankrupt electric utility company. I figured my odds of being laid off were less considering that someone has to provide the power. I now design and estimate the electric distribution system...everything from a service to a new house to undergrounding 3000' of overhead poles. It's always new and different.
