Darrell's Story

They say, "To find a (Love) and lose it is better than to have never been loved at all," had to of been the one who was never loved at all. I miss you, Love you, and you are truly my soul mate.... You have my "Heart" forever, and ever Amen! --------------------------------------- I have traveled with my military family all of my juvenile life. I started out being born at the Navel Air Station Jacsonville, Florida. Since then, I moved every three years of my life up to the age of nineteen at which time I joined the USMC myself. This seems to be a family tradition as Mom, Dad, Brother, and adopted sister all served honorably. After joining the Marine Corps, in Albany Georgia, (1985), I learned a most valuable life lesson concerning "Fidelity!" Even the Corps instilled the motto, "Semper Fedelis," Always Faithful.. Sometimes our actions dictate the doors that were once opened to be slammed in our face. SO, after my face healed up, I traveled far away to an Island in the far East, Okinawa, Japan. The person behind the slamming door traveled far away as well while enjoying a long career in the USAF. Okinawa is a beautiful place (Paradise Island) I really call home, and feel most at peace when I am on Island. I met my wife who is Okinawian, and gave birth to our oldest of three children prior to leaving for RMT, NC. Our other two kids were born in NC so, two boys, and daddy's precious little girl will be enough for our family of five. 1994 - I was sworn in as a Law Enforcement Officer, and seemed to be living my dream. There were really three things I wanted to be when I was a little boy. I wanted to play football, and I did this through Pop Warner, and High School in Okinawa. I then wanted to always be a MARINE! I achieved this through the years of 1985 - 1991. Finally, I always wished I could be a COP! A Police Officer who lived an exciting life of chasing people, saving lives, and making a difference in someone's life along the way. I loved this job and please forgive me; however, I am damned good at it too. Well while in the middle of my fourteenth year, August 05, 2007 about 03:30, I was shot twice in the line of duty while on a vehicle stop! I guess I wasn't all that good that night. I was going to assist two other Officers who were behind a vehicle with five gang members. The vehicle was reported to be occupied with a wanted person. One member ran from the vehicle which provoked the two Officers to give chase on foot. This left me with the other four gang members so, I went to work order...Expand for more
ing the driver to the ground by "Gun Point." The other three came out of the back seat which did not sit well with me so, I ordered them face down on the highway as well. The third guy complied, but the fourth member refused to listen so, I threatend him with deadly force at which time, the fifth member came out using deadly force. He did so by shooting four time striking me twice. Once in my left side which traveled through and out of my back just to the left of my spine, and also my right elbow. After falling down on my back striking my head on the highway, I suppose my trainig kicked in as I shot six times, and hours later, the bad guy was found dead in some bushes at a Ford dealership. After I was released from the Trauma Center, it took seven months for me to bounce back physically and I got back on the horse so to speak. I hit the street again, and visited the place where I was shot. Interesting enough, it began to snow, and I stood there with the strobe lights bouncing off of my eyes thinking of the past, and probably because of the snow the word Miyuki came to mind. This means "Pure Snow." I suppose this was symbolic of the snow washing the bad things away, and allowing the purness of life to carry on as it once did. Three months later I suffered from psychological issues that came to fruition in a court room. I was completly ouraged when a lawyer challenged my authority and my validity concerning another vehicle stop when I pulled out an AK-47 Assault Rifle out of his client's vehicle. In the end, unnoticed by me at the time, I had tears in my eyes which alarmed the entire court room. I was pulled back out of duty the next day, Friday, March 14, 2008 and the doctor visits began. I have made great improvements eventhough I still do not feel anything on my left hip due to the bullet traveling just to the left of my spine clipping some nerves. Today - Tuesday, September 09, 2008, I am awaiting to receive full retirement from the Law Enforcement life I loved. As of October 01, 2008, I will retire and be a civillian for the first time in my 43 years of life. You know, besides the hurtful action which caused a certain person in the 80's, a lot of personal pain, I wouldn't change my life for the world. No excuses as I was a young Marine, "Full of Piss & Venigar," and no damn commen sense, THEN, and now I am left to reflect on my life, and for some reason, I am doing so on this forum... Please forgive me, I felt compelled to do this.... Okay I am done, thanks for listening... GOD Bless you all.....
