Archie's Story
Life
Retired from the Air Force in 1988 after 28 years. Retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9)! I earned three college degrees during my 28 year career. A BS from U of Maryland; an MS from Peabody College at Vanderbilt U; and an AAS from the Community College of the Air Force.
Following retirement in Denver, CO, I held a civil service Supervisory Accounting position (GS-12) but soon realized that it wasn't the career I thought if would be and I decided that as I was single I would buy a 34 foot class A motor home and travel until I got tired of doing that. My idea was to travel the western US and Canada. I did also take advantage of military space A travel to get from west coast to east coast! I fished in many wonderful places in the Pacific Northwest and in British Columbia and Alberta. I did that from 1989 until 1994 and settled in Gresham, OR after selling my "House on Wheels!"
I stayed there for 2 years and in 1996 I met the Love of My Life, a very attractive and witty widow who lived in Arkansas, near her family and fri...Expand for more
ends.
After several visits between Oregon and Arkansas, we eventually decided to pack my furniture and did a modified Oregon Trail to Arkansas in a Ryder Truck. We arrived the day after a horrific tornado did substantial damage in the area.
We were married at our parish church on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1997. We recently celebrated our 10th anniversary, and for those of you that know my married history will be amazed at that number.
We have three granddaughters, all born since my arrival and naturally feel a special kinship with them, one in particular. We also have three dogs, mine a Rat terrier/Jack Russell mix and hers a pair of precocious miniature dachsunds.
I have been wheelchair bound since 2005, but can still get around some as I am able to carry my chair on an electric lift whenever I have to see my doctors or to do some shopping.
My travels are somewhat restricted by other GI problems, but I do what I can and I don't when I can't.
Will have my 67th birthday next month, so I shouldn't complain too loudly.
