Henry's Story

When I was 12 to 14 years old I lived at the Desert Sanctuary outside of Benson and I was one of the first people from there who attended Benson Middle High. My name back then was Snake and I had long black hair. I am Native American. My very best friend at that time was Judy Estavillo. She was on the basketball team. She was a couple grades ahead of me and she lived in Benson. I do not remember my homeroom teachers name, but I was befriended by another teacher who's name was Patricia Ross. She became a long lasting friend. I used to hang out with a small circle of friends at the local park in the mornings before school started. I currently live in Salt Lake City and work for a printing company, I am happily married and have two beautiful daughters who are 9 and 11 years old. After I left the Desert Sanctuary I moved back to Tucson and then started school at Sabino High. Not long after that I left and moved to Idaho where I spent 20 years of my life. I moved to Utah after that and married my wife. I often wonder about the people I met back then in Benson, but I don't recall anyone's name. There is one school incident that stands out very clearly. Because I came from the Desert Sanctuary I was considered somewhat of a misfit. All through the school year I was harassed by the local school jock. I believe his name was David. He made threats all year long that he was going to beat me up at the end of the year. All this came about because early on in the year he saw me talking to his girlfriend. At years end the day had finally come and we all gathered in the school yard. I told him I would not fight him with all his friends ...Expand for more
standing there. I suggested that we go up to the upper football field where nobody else was around and where I stood to have a better advantage. He was okay with this. The guy did have an extra foot of height on me and at least another fifty pounds. I was a skinny little kid. Unknown to everyone, I carried a wooden club down the length of my leg and I had a small hatchet stuffed down the backside of my pants. The hatchet was for effect. I really wanted to scare the guy. But the club I used for smacking him up the side of the head. He was really what most people would call the school bully. We wrestled around for only a minute before the rest of the school had raced up to the football field and broke up the fight. Teachers intervened and we were taken to the office and were told to wait for the principle. The jock was told to return to class and was not disciplined. When the Principal started in on me I decided that I had had enough. I had spent all year long being bullied and harassed by the local football team because I was an outsider. All because I talked to a girl. And then there was the fact that I came from the Desert Sanctuary, I had long long hair and I was probably considered a hippy. And my name was Snake. I was not about to let the Principal start picking on me. So I did the smartest thing I could. I walked away. I never returned to the Benson after that. If you recall any of this, then you should have no problem remembering me. I have a beautiful lovely wife, two daughters that I am proud of and love very much, and a job that I am happy and comfortable with. I am my own boss. I also now go by the name Beaux Kyle
