Hilary's Story
Hola. I have been living in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico for the past 10 years. Prior to that, I was working for 2 years in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for an American organization building housing in the townships outside of P.E. (1999-2000). I came to Ajijic, Mexico for a holiday before returning to Victoria, B.C. - and decided to stay!
During my 31 years living in Victoria I worked as a pharmacist, realtor, obtained my Masters Degree in Public Administration, worked for 5 years for the provincial government in housing, 5 years as a stockbroker with Richardson Greenshields. In 1987 I took on the job of executive director of Pacifica Housing Advisory Association. We were building and managing rental housing for low and middle income families and physically disabled, plus building cooperatively owned housing projects. I left to continue that as a consultant to several non-profit societies including Pacifica. In the 34 housing projects I was responsible for developing on Vancouver Island, 6 were co-ops and that expertise is why/how I got the 2 year contract in South Africa.

ravelling and have been to Hawaii, Costa Rica, Barbados, Guatemala, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe (2 1/2 months working with a Co-op housing resource group in 1992), US, of course, - and sailing among the islands off Vancouver Island. This summer (2011) I shall be travelling to Victoria, 2 other stops in B.C.to visit son and daughter and their families, Saskatoon (sister Anne), and Halifax (my younger son and family).
George Stewardson and I were in divorced in 1974 (I think). We have 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. George taught in the high school in Swift Current for 3 years but in 1967 he decided to go back to Pharmacy. At that point I persuaded him that we should move to Victoria with our 3 children - oldest 5. And so we did.
Now I spend time at my computer doing internet marketing - soending more than I'm making at the present time - but having fun learning "stuff". I also sing at karaoke two evenings a week at a local restaurant - good group of good singers. There are many ex-pats here mainly from Canada and the USA so there is always something going on to enjoy.
