Holly's Story
Greetings to all...I can't believe it's been more than 50 years since Atherton days...although I have a constant reminder given that a street in our subdivision is named Atherton as well! I retired last year, after a career of more than 50 years, that all began with a BA (pre-med) from Georgetown College.
These few sentences might be all that is of interest...however, I've included more detail below about the person I became after high school, hoping that many of you will do the same as I know that all of us have had interesting lives after high school!
I've been in Albuquerque with the University of New Mexico (UNM) for more than 20 years, but prior to that four years in Augusta at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), starting my career in Louisville at Norton Children's Hospital (NKC) for about 20 years. NKC sent me to Emory for masters in medical librarianship and MBA at University of Louisville in support of being director of medical library as well as chief information officer role, with responsibility for one of the early electronic health records. After doctorate in education I had library director/fac...Expand for more
ulty position at MCG, beginning research as well as instructing in the medical curriculum. I relocated to New Mexico in 1997 for various positions at UNM, again directing medical library, information and education technologies, and responsibility for planning and constructing over 200,000 square feet of state-of-the-art collaborative education facilities, including clinical simulation and other high tech classrooms, retiring a year ago as Professor Emeritus.
I also had many opportunities to participate beyond my institutions, serving as President of the national Medical Library Association, and developing national information policies for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including being elected to chair its Board of Regents for the National Library of Medicine.
For fun: most satisfying being a mother of Brent (now 32); having a couple of horses and working with Brent on competition (western and English); and more recently, enjoying retirement and travel to Istanbul, Greece, Italy and a transatlantic cruise to Barcelona/Madrid. Now, I look forward to reading about your own life experiences...
