Howard's Story
Life
Since graduation, I went to college at Oberlin Conservatory where I studied composition and music technology. Then after a brief unhappy stint at Columbia for grad school, I ended up at UT Austin where I got my Masters and Doctorate in Composition. I USED TO live in Bryan, TX where I was a professor at Texas A&M. Now I live in LONDON! Suddenly life is beautiful again.
I don't come back to Roslyn very often, except to visit my now octagenarian parents. But I'd still be happy to hear from old friends and enemies alike.
Bobby Canosa, this fickle finger is for you! And one for you, too, George W.
School
Spent a lot 'o time in those practice rooms, practicing and otherwise (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). Basically I had little use for Roslyn High and its people, and I think the feeling was mutual. I'm a communist today because of the rich S(N)OBs I encountered there. But there are, of course, some exceptions - The "Gang," Sheri K., and Gail B. and a few various and sundry o...Expand for more
thers. All pales but for the service of art.
College
I was a hard worker and a hard partier at Obieland. My drinking probably burned some wires and my sexual appetites burned some partners. Met some great friends there as well as great teachers. Always will have warm memories of Oberlin and will forever consider it the ideal model for a college -- nothing to do but work and/or drink.
Workplace
Taught at University of Texas at Austin, Oberlin Conservatory, Austin Community College, Western Carolina University, then to Brown University, then to Texas A&M and finally to London, where I'm teaching at Kingston University. Throughout my adult life, I've worked as a professional musician and composer, playing session and live gigs, writing music for television, theatre, computer games, opera and concert performance. This career path has taken me all over the world to almost every continent, except for Australia and Antartica. Travelling is one of the best parts of being a musician.
