Hugh's Story
Life
Well hello! It's been 37 years, so here's a really quick update:
Moved to England in 1968, patchy school career, possibly due to being crap at maths. Became a Customs Officer in 1975 (ambition from age 5) and did that for 20 years, eventually specialising narcotics intelligence. It was the only job I ever had which I genuinely enjoyed and at which I excelled - shame! Set up home with Italian air stewardess, Loretta, in 1982 and stayed eleven years - no kids with her but plenty of latin temper. Got married to someone else, Mandy, 1994 (less mentoned the better!)...she ran off with a workshy perpetual student in 2003 (enthusiastically aided by her pointless pal Fat Sarah). We had two kids, Emily was born in 1995 and Ian in 1996 - they now live with me. I also got the house, the cars and a bit of peace so not too bad a deal. Worked for some time in pharmaceuticals after leaving H.M. Customs in 1995. Then moved to a senior position at JP Morgan in the City of London and made enough money to be comfortable. London is a pretty awful place to work, even on a good day, and my children needed a great deal more attention than I was able to give - I left that job in 2004. We now live in Kensworth, a very rural village in Bedfordshire, 30 miles north of Lo...Expand for more
ndon with the two kids, a Rover, a Landrover, a Subaru and The Rabbit With No name. Ripping!
School
Yes, I went to more than one school.
College
Turned down a place at East Anglia University because I was having a great time with fast cars and airline stewardesses - I know I should regret it but I don't. I've done a lot and had a great time.
Workplace
H.M Customs and Excise, 1975 to 1995. Operational Intelligence - brilliant - no discipline required! SmithKline Beecham, 1995 - 2000 - Worked hard, had a great time. JP Morgan Chase, London 2000 - 2004 You really have to love being in London and I don't. It's ok from a distance. 2004 to present - Glaxo SmithKline - just a minion because I have two children to bring up on my own and they absorb all my available dedication. This is NOT where I expected to be, believe me but I've had my share of success and I'm having a pretty good time so what the hell!!
Military
I'm a pacifist and steer clear of any organisation which demands serious discipline. I was member of the Cubs in 1967, though, which is almost military - I was quickly encouraged to leave, having worn a badge which said 'LSD is good for you' to a Cub meeting. Akela found it less amusing than I did, but it was the only badge I had.
