Ihor's Story
December 4, 2022
After high school, I went to the U of A for a couple of years full time. I spent the next eleven years working in construction and driving a truck. During this time, I continued to take courses at the university part time, I got married, my son and daughter were born, and I became a journeyman carpenter. In 1982 I returned to the U of A again full time. The following summer and autumn I worked in construction. In January 1984, I returned to school and by April of 1985, I completed a BSc in mathematics. I drove a truck for another year and then returned to the U of A for a BEd in the after degree program. After graduation, I taught school for Edmonton Public Schools for the next 29 years. The first 2 years I was a substitute teacher, the next 9 years I taught in 2 junior high schools, and the last 18 years I taught in a high school. At the age of 65, I retired and have remained so...Expand for more
ever since.
I try to stay active by cycling, walking, and weight lifting. I also keep busy with my art work. If you're curious about my artwork, Google my name, Ihor Lytviak, and it will show up in Pinterest.
I have two grandchildren from my daughter. My grandson is currently living with us while attending the U of A. His family is in Calgary. I'm happy that he isn't following in my footsteps and is actually a serious engineering student.
I'm still married to my first wife and we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary recently.
I joined Classmates a couple of days ago and was surprised that I remember so few of the people that show up here, probably fewer than 10. Of those, all but 3 I know from elementary and junior high. If you noticed me prying in your profiles, it's because I'm curious about the few people that I know here and am cheered that you seem to have done well for youselves.
