Ilka's Story
I don't know why I am here...I absolutely hated high school!
Life is great - all the experiences I've had have made me love the skin I'm in. I have two great children - one going to high school this year! Did I mention that time really flies...I still don't know exactly when I became a REAL grown-up.
After high school, I went to Long Island University and received a BA in Media Arts. Worked in tv for a while...Montel Williams and a few post production houses...but the industry just wasn't for me.
I then went to Polytechnic University and obtained my MS in Technical Communications - the work was good until 9-11 and then ...Expand for more
writers like me were a staff luxury. So I changed careers again - this time as a single mom.
Went BACK to school and received another MS in Education. I am now a teacher - and I love it! Inner city kids are challenging but they need good people around them. I've actually been able to use all my skills - media arts, technical communications and education - to build my career.
I absolutely love having summers off - spending that time travelling (when I can) with my kids.
