Irene's Story

Irene was my grandmother and I just thought I'd put this in: Irene Olga Goodlataw 62 years of age went to be with the Lord on Easter morning, March 23, 2007 in Glennallen, Alaska. Irene was born at the Faith hospital on August 16, 1945 to the late Gene and Ena Nicholai. She resided in The Native Village of Tazlina her whole life. She attended the Copper Valley School until the 10th grade. Irene married her life long companion of 47 years her loving, caring, compassionate, soul mate and husband Johnny Goodlataw on September 16, 1961. She is survived by her half brother Markle Pete; daughters Linda and Betty Goodlataw, Jennifer Phillips, LaVonne Geffe and Valerie Stickwan; her son Joseph Goodlataw; son-in-laws Terry Hicks, Benjamin John Jr., Ralph Phillips, Fritz Geffe and Ray Stickwan; her granddaughters Vanessa and Genevie Goodlataw, Chrystal Hicks, Keshia and Kassandra John, Jenneva and Irene Phillips, ShaVonne and Sarah Geffe, Sharelle Cree and Shania Stickwan; her grandsons Travis, Vincent and Joshua Goodlataw, Terry Hicks Jr., Stewart, Brian and Jonathan George, Jacob Phillips, Benjamen John III, John, James and Franklin Geffe; her great-grandchildren VaLinda and Kiera Goodlataw, Ryan George, Gabriel Goodlataw-Stevens and Anjula Geffe; her niece Faye Surran (Nicholai) and Nija Nicholai; and her nephew Victor Phillips. ved to spend holidays with her family and always made sure everyone was fed and taken care of especially her grandchildren. She always kept in contact with her daughters everyday to check on how they are doing and to talk. Her house was always filled with flowers and dreamcatchers in every room, always had a clean house and had a Bible open on an end table and by her side. She proudly sang gospel hymnals in church and at home out loud, additionally she prayed daily. Her home was always open to anyone in need and when someone was in need she was always there. Irene loved having visitors and playing her favorite games Yahtzee and Uno. She loved to watch the game show channel and play bingo as well. Irene¿s summer home was always fish camp. She loved to teach the younger generation the traditional ways of life. Grandson Joshua Goodlataw learned his traditional ways from her, as soon as school was out for summer Joshua spent his summer at fish camp. Additionally every year during the summer she devotedly attended the Copper Valley School reunion in August and she always requested during the dance to play ¿Johnny B Good¿ and ¿Goodnight Irene¿ Other favorite songs were Wolly Bully, Blueberry Hill and Indian Rock N Roll. From far and near she kept an address book with numbers of 4 or 5 books to keep in touch with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by family and friends from far and near.
