Isabel's Story
Retired R.N. and living in So. California. After graduating from SPJC with my AA in nursing I worked in Jacksonville for two years ending that time as evening charge nurse in the E.R. (I love that show). Decided I wanted to see the world so I accepted a commission in the Army Nurse Corp in 1962 and after Basic I was stationed in San Fransisco. Soon after arriving I met Darrell, who was finishing his residency in Psychiatry, and we were married in 1963. We had an interesting first year being stationed together in Korea at the 121st Evac Hosp. We were also assigned to a MASH unit.( another realy great show !!) After Korea we came to Ft.Ord, Ca. and I resigned my commission. Darrell went into private practice and I became a Mom to Michael, Colin and Amy. Among all the usual life experiences that occur two stand out for me. Darrell and I went on a Cursillo retreat in 1978 and I started attending Bible Study Fellowship in the Carmel class. I'm still in BSF in the Temecula class. Darrell was asked to come back in the Army in 1984 and after three more tours at Ft. Ord we were back in San Fransisco again. Stayed for three years than went to Germany for three years and retired to New Port Richey where the sun shines almost all the time. Amy, our youngest joined us in Florida and graduated from UF getting her BS in Ecotourism. Both boys are married and we have a wonderful Grandaughter. It has been great to see former classmates at the reunions. Hope you will be at the next one!!
2009-Finds us back in CA. We moved to Wildomar in June 09 to be closer to the kids and our Granddaughter.
Madison. Winchester is about 1.5 hrs. north east of San Diego and the sun shines here more than in Florida! After almost a year of looking we finally bought a house in the town of Wildomar, still in the same Temecula/Winchester area. I can finally unpack!! There is no humidity here and so far no real mosquito problem!! We love the weather.
I had started Quilting while in Florida and continued after our move to CA. I love it.
My Husband, Darrell, passed away this last October (2010) and it's been very hard but my children have been very suportive and my church choir family along with my quilt guild friends are here for me. I am blessed.
These are the years of travel! 2011-...Expand for more
2012, Stated out this past September with an Eastern Med. cruise out of Venice and will be joining Barbara Zepke Mortson after Thanksgiving for Australia, New New Zealand and Figi. I'll rest up until May when Barbara and I will be off to China. Next September I'm off again, this time to South Africa.
I've been taking some photography classes and am anxious to use what I've learned. I've posted some photos on Facebook and will be dding more.
2015 update: Still in Wildomar, So. Africa was the best I took some great pictures, Barbara and I went on a Russian RiverCruise from St. Peters urge to Moscow last summer, enjoyed it took more pictures! I went down to visit Geri Vrabel Lee in Alamos, Sonora, Mexico in October. Beautiful small town and had a great time , took more pictures! Geri has found a wonderful place to retire.
I am now a volunteer with a program called TIP. That's Trauma Intervention Program. Look it up, it's nationwide. It is some of the most rewarding Work I have ever done.
Still traveling but more interested in beaches and warm water so next August my daughter and two daughters in law will join me in Maui for a girls get away. Sooo looking forward to that time on the beach! I'll have my camera strapped to me!
2015-2016 Maui was great but "humid", won't go in August again! Last November Geri, Barbara Mortson and Marie Nesti Polhamus came down to my house for a mini reunion. Marie and Barbara live in CA. but Geri came up from Mexico and we had a great time. Marie brought all her yearbooks!
Spent Christmas and New Years with my daughter Amy in Aurora, CO.. Beautiful country , Amy drove me all over. Cold but sunny and very dry.
Barbara and I will be packing our suitcases again in May as we head to Kenya and Tanzania. We are going with OAT this time and I am so looking forward to visiting Africa again. I am trying to get as much travel in while I can still get off the couch so next November I will be in India. If you like to travel check out Grand Circle Travel and Overseas Adventure Travel.
