Jaci's Story
Life
After living in Washington state for the majority of my first 45 years, and escaping the "small" town where I grew up as soon as I graduated from high school to move to the the "big city" of Seattle, I'm now living on the Oregon Coast in a town of 1,200 residents (much, MUCH smaller than my too small home town). If you watch the movie "Hysterical," or the fishing scene in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," you can see my new "home" town, Depoe Bay.
I own the city's only taxi company, and I occasionally design graphic art work for some of the local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce. I also design wearable art, and have lectured at art museums here in Oregon state.
Currently, I'm living with my two cats, Thistle & Polly, and a male Brewer's Blackbird that I raised from an egg 4 years ago (2001), Walter Mathilda, who oversees, supervises (and CORRECTS) ALL household operations.
I have 2 nieces who visit regularly from Coos Bay, Oregon, and 1 niece from Waikoloa, Hawaii, who spends her summers with me here on the mainland. Together, we travel and devote our time to finding every single fun activity on the coast (and there are quite a few).
In my "old age", I love to cook and bake for special occasions, and have become quite involved in the local politics of our little town, serving on the City Council. I've a...Expand for more
lso developed a passion for photography, and produce a quarterly newspaper for family and friends that is full of photos and updates, as well as the monthly 'Spindrift' newsletter for our local Chamber of Commerce.
Workplace
After working for every level of government possible (city, county, state & federal) for almost 20 years, as well as in a couple of private sector positions, I quit my job, became an artist, moved to Depoe Bay, Oregon, and bought a taxi company. Now I live less than a block from the ocean with an unobstructed view of the water; I watch whales from my living room window in the spring, summer and fall, gaze at beautiful waves and glorious storms at sea during the winter months, and watch the guys from the local Coast Guard training station go out and play in the surf each day to the delight of the local tourists standing on the sea wall.
I'm currently heavily involved with Depoe Bay's city government (serving on the city's Economic Business Development Committee), am on the executive board of the local Chamber of Commerce, as well as dealing with the day-to-day operations of the taxi service. It's not what I ever thought I would do (make that ever, ever, EVER thought I would do!), but I enjoy it very much. And when it's 65 degrees outside on Christmas day here in Depoe Bay, I enjoy it all the more!
