Jack's Story
Life
Life after high school was not necessarily a huge change. UNH in Durham, N.H., isn't all that far from East Bridgewater, but it was far enough to know I could do whatever I needed to whenever I wanted to. I graduated from UNH in 1995 with a degree in journalism and promptly found out I wasn't going to get paid like a Pulitzer Prize winner anytime soon. So, I made a career change into sales, working for high-tech company Cabletron in Rochester, N.H.
I was at Cabletron for over three years before I was laid off in May 1999 (just as the high-tech market started bottoming out). I picked up another sales role at Avaya, a Lucent spinoff, and ... yep, laid off again, this time in September 2000. I'm VERY active in music (five guitars, two bass guitars, one trumpet, three bands and counting) and if I could make that a career I would. For now I'll just be the Portsmouth, N.H. area's biggest unknown rock star. :) One of the bands I played in (now defunct, but Prajna was a great time) found a home in New York City, playing at the "weird jazz" clubs like the Lion's Den and especially the Knitting Factory. I really miss playing the shows but I don't miss the midnight to 3 a.m. schedule and the drive back the next morning to go to work at 10 a.m. Ugh. I'm currently testing my mettle behind the mixing board and hope to independently release an album soon.
