Jack's Story
Life
I graduated from Arlington-Green Isle High in 1963 and joined the Navy a few months later. I did boot camp in San Diego and then spent about seven months in Pensacola learning to be a Communications Technician "R". My first duty station was NAVCOMMSTAPHIL, San Miguel, Philippines. Transferred to the USS Oxford (AGTR-1) in June of 65 and left the ship for separation in Aug. 66. I'll never forget the Oxford. I made some great friends there and got to see a lot of Southeast Asia, although what we usually saw was the coast of South Vietnam. S Customs for 11 years and then moved back to Minnesota from Washington, DC to work for 3M. I retired from 3M in April of 2002 and now have my own consulting company, Jack Ryan and Associates, Inc. Most of my work deals with import compliance and regulations. I've got two kids, a girl 27 and a boy 18. My wife is a nurse. We now live in a suburb of St. Paul, MN. I'm a member of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association and active in the Midwest Importers Trade Assn. and chairman of the advisory board for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Minnesota State University, Mankato (my college changed names over the year). And that's about it.
