Jackie's Story
I am smart, friendly, a helper, and athletic. I am aging and haven't got the sense or resolve to slow down. Ouch...did I just boo boo myself AGAIN!
The last name has changed a few times. Born to Isla Sue Fielder;ALLEN;Babcock;Greenleaf and John M. Allen, but biologic Dad was likely "Jimmy Vickers."Borrowed Babcock, when mom re-married Allan Babcock, age 9. Back to Allen at age 18 as it was the name on my birth certificate/SSN. I chose Alexander for the past 30 plus years.
Rod and I married on 9/25/80. We've been around the world with our travels in the U.S.Army. We joined the Army together 10/07/80. We've been stationed in CA, TX, North Carolina, Germany (Darmstadt,Erbeskof and Kaiserslatern), Korea and several areas in the middle east.
I work in Emergency Medicine. I am a nurse practitioner with a clinical doctorate; a Doctor Nurse or Nurse Doctor.
I am passionate about helping people help themselves.
Rod's a mailman in Reno. He was a cop for 5 plus years in El Paso after retiring from the Army. Then a cop in Reno for about 6 months, but didn't like the area risk ratio. He's never really found his passion.
The 1st home (duplex) we owned was bought in 1986. 558 Victor St., Salinas CA, 93907; 998 sq ft., 2 bdrm, 1 bath.
Home 2 was bought in 1991 at 1904 Pointe East LN, El Paso TX 79936;3311sq ft., 3 bdrm, 2.5 bath.
Home 3 is at 180 Mahogany Canyon CT, is on 11 acres, bought in 2001 in Verdi, Nevada. We built in 2006 a 4 suite, 4.5 bath 4001 sq. ft. German Hunter's Castle (Jaeger Schloss), just 10 miles west of Reno that I call "Alexander Schloss". There are deer, rabbits, lizards, rattle snakes, several varieties of squirrels, an occasional bear, fox, skunk, and coyotes along w/lots of mountain blue jays around.
We have 3 kids: Anna, John & Joseph. Anna lives in Columbus, OH. Our 1st grand-baby was born on 9/27/14, McKedde Solice Alexander-Waugh. Our older son, John died tragically on 2/27/11, 22.5 years old. Our hearts will never recover, but our lives go on. Our younger son, Joseph is an UNR grad w/degree premed;Molecular biology with minor in Chemistry. He moved into his 1st apartment 7/19/13 w/Cory (roommate) and the 2nd 7/12/14 (alone), both in Reno. He got his 1st job in the healthcare industry 11/2013 as an Operating Room Orderly at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. Our nest emptied 29 years after starting our family.
We have 3 large male dogs: an American Bulldog/Mastiff (Buddy), a Dutch Shepherd (Chief), and an English Mastiff (Samson). We have a female calico cat (Trixie). We adopted "Uncle" Thom-Thom 9/5/11, a tuxedo cat. We also adopted a feral kitten on 10/7/11 and named him "Tiny" Tim, a Chantilly Chocolate. He has become Thom-Thom's buddy. On 1/28/12 we adopted another feral kitten (Tux), a short hair tuxedo cat. He resides in the house as he is playful and befriended Thom-Thom and Tim. We adopted a 5 y/o male Medium-hair Billicat (Turkish Van with cap and saddle) on 7/29/12, named Taz and a tiny feral kitten on 8/16/12, Jane an orange eyed Torte short hair. Rod rescued 2 female Calico cats that were abandoned at an apa...Expand for more
rtment complex, 1 dark (Tera) and 1 light (Tess). 9/03/12 we adopted 2, 8 y/o female Torte's who were initially out in the barn with hopes to calm the barn cats, Dolly and (Dora died 10/2012) so Dolly was brought inside. On 3/23/13 we adopted another feral we brought into the house, a tiny Billicat (black and white medium hair with mask and mantle) male, named Tuffy. In 8/2013 we adopted tiny feral kittens, (bro/sis) Ed (orange tiger) and Edde (grey tiger). We added a sickly lost Ragdoll, Rod named Sweetpea to our family 6/2014. So, 7 females and 6 males in the house, half are rehabilitated ferals.
We have 12 feral/working cats that live in the barn. The cat cam shows they get along and in general seem happy.
We have lost beloved pets as well. Pets that died in El Paso were Gloria, Anna's cat and Pepper, John's dog. Pets that passed away in Verdi were Joe's black Lab (Jake) on 7/20/09 at age 13 (90 plus human years). John's kitten, a long hair tuxedo (Thom) died on 5/8/11 (Mother's Day/10 weeks to the day following John). He is buried at the base of John's Crab Apple tree on the hill by our seasonal stream. A barn cat, Blue (male), a Siamese and Dora (female), Torte (BOTH died of kidney failure) in 2012. Thunder-Bug, a Cane Corso Mastiff/mix passed 10/27/12 from Stage 5 lymphoma.
All the human family members snowboard and ski. I like to hike also, but my knees are bad, so serious running is no longer part of my life following knee surgery in 2004. I'm still fit, & the same size/weight I was in high school.
I have an older and younger half-sister (Jonnie and Jody). Jonnie is on hubby 3 or 4 depending on how one counts. She lives in Bosman, Montana. She has 2 daughters, Kristina and Patty and 1 son, Kenny. She has 3 grandchildren, Annika and Dublin from Kristina, and Emma from Kenny. Jody is single (divorced after 24 yrs) and lives in the Sacramento basin area. She has 1 step-son, Joshua (wife Chelsea) and 3 sons, Ian, Sean and Evan.
My 7 half-brothers are in Colorado, Ohio, Texas and Maine. The oldest of my brothers, James (Co) died 4/9/10. His widow, JoAnna is a Major in the Air Force. She adopted Nicholas on his birth 9/20/14. He has 2 adult sons from his 1st marriage. Jeff (TX) is with 2nd wife and has 5 kids (yours, mine and ours). He works on transmitter towers and preaches. Jon (TX) is married to an ex-girlfriend of Jeff's. Jon preaches and is also an air traffic controller. Jon has 14 kids so far; 3 boys natural; 11 special needs adopted (a profession for his wife); 2 siblings in 2008; 6 siblings in 2010; 3 more in 2013. Alan "Charlie" (TX) is married and has 3 kids. Chuck (OH) is on marriage 2 and has 2 girls. He has also lost a child, an infant daughter. Chad(?) is possibly back in the Air Force or Army. Chris (Maine) is divorced. His ex(Tory) and their 2 boys also live in Maine.
The passing years have been an adventure, sometimes great and sometimes beyond horrific. I try to be positive and hopeful, but am aware that bad things happen, evidently repeatedly, and unfortunately I'm on the "happening" list..ha ha!
That's my story to date.
