Al's Story
Life
What a life, How easy to look back. I married Jackie Campbell in 1971, we had a daughter in 1972 and a son in 1975. I worked for Krispy Kreme for 3 years and I spent time in the Navy, left on a medical discharge, worked for Krispy Kreme somemore, worked for Frank's Hardware in Fairfax for about 5 years, we opened our own bakeries (Dixie Cream) in Murray, Ky. Had them until 1988, in 1995 also opened a childrens gift shop,(ETC... Gifts) Sold it in 1988, Went to work for Save-A-Lot grocery as produce manager in 1989, retired in 2007 as a store manager. Thats my whole life, it looked easy but it wasn't. What I didn't say was I was disabled out of the Navy, got married on crutches, disabled 7 years, spent two years in the hospital, had 7 heard bypasses...Expand for more
in 2006, back surgery in 2006 that resulted in a light stroke during surgery that left my left arm and leg numb. That resulted in my early retirement from Save-a-Lot. Now I just sit at home and do laundry, cooking, cleaning, babysitting, and all those things that my wife had done for so long. Oh, still married to my first wife after 36 years, she has stuck by me after all we have been through. I love the computer, it's a lifeline to the outside world, I have a black lab named Phebie, a cat named Buster, and four grand children. As it turns out I have pretty much done every thing I have ever wanted to do, never got rich with money, never took my wife on a cruise, never took my children to Disney World. I just worked all my life trying to make ends meet.
