Jackie's Story
Life
Born in Philadelphia, PA, I lived most of my young life in NY state. (Syracuse, Buffalo, Endicott) I attended Herbert Hoover Elementary in Kenmore NY from Kindergarten thru 4th grade when I then moved to Endicott, NY. There, I attended George F. Johnson for 5th grade and was moved to the new elementary school in Crestview Heights (Thomas J. Watson) for 6th grade. My junior high was Jennie F. Snapp and high school was Union Endicott. Went on to college in Canton NY for Hotel Management. Worked the hotel field for a number of years, then went back to school for computer programming around 1979. Jobs included programming, QA work, Technical Instructor, Course Developer and Systems Programmer/DBA. Married for the first time 11/98, Stepmom of 2 (Jasmine and John, both married with children now.) and currently live in California. We first became grandparents in 2004, and now have a total of 4! In spring 2002, I graduated yet another school, this time for Interior Design and was working full-time with a company that designs model homes and sales offices until the bottom fell out of the new housing market. We had planned on returning to the East Coast around the year 2003, but it's more difficult to do than we had planned. We're still aiming for moving back east, but when that will be is anyone's guess! The sooner the better, I say!
School
There are a lot of things I miss from my below-college school days. I always loved going to school mostly because that was where my social life was! While I don't miss the angst nor the insecurity of day to day existence... I do miss the friends I made, the wonderment of growing up and surety that I was invincible and in total control of my destiny! I miss having people know who I am and where I come from (because they grew...Expand for more
up with me) - yet... I relish my independence and the opportunity to redefine myself without being held to how I "used to be". I'm one of those people who truly loved Jr. and Sr. High School and all the experiences that came with them - good, bad or indifferent. I learned a lot from my loves, my friends and from my environment. I cherish it all.
Workplace
After graduating Canton ATC, I worked at a kosher resort hotel in the Catskills. Quite an education for a half-filipina! From there I worked at The Lodge in Endicott NY before heading to work at the Kalamazoo Hilton Inn in Michigan for about a 1 1/2 years. I was slated to be a Front Office manager at a Hilton going up outside Chicago, but that fell thru. For some reason, I decided that what I HAD wanted to do for the rest of my life was going to bore me, so I re-evaluated my life, moved to Virginia, went to school for Computer Programming and started a new career. With computers, I was a programmer, a Quality Assurance Analyst, a technical instructor/course developer (for about 9 years) and a systems programmer/DBA for about 5 years. A year after getting married in 1998 and moving to California, my company laid me off so I again re-evaluated my life. I decided to head back to school for Interior Design and graduated May 2002. During school, I worked part time as a tutor in the Interior Design department, and also at a furniture/interior design store. I was offered a position with a well-known local company to design Sales Offices and Model Homes so I jumped at the chance, and that's the most recent position I held. I still don't know what my niche is, but I'm enjoying learning! Hopefully, my current work experience will help me to more quickly move into a design position back east when we move. I can only hope!
