Jackie's Story
I hope to move home to Kentucky in the near future. I so wanted to get out of there. I didn't have any freedom at home. I needed to get out on my own and experience some of what the world had to offer. The United States Air Force allowed me to do that. I was on active duty for both of the recent wars. Desert Storm/Desert Shield, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I work as a corrections officer for the Delaware Department of Corrections. I didn't talk to anyone at home for many years outside of family. Classmates helped me reconnect. I made it home for the twenty year reunion. It was a good time. I missed the first two, the first one due to the military, and the second one because I never found out about it. There are a lot of things I miss about living in Kentucky. The people are a lot more friendly. I guess you have to leave a situation to miss what it was that you had there.
I would love to go into the Forensics career field, either that or something in the medical arena. I think forensics is so interesting. I love watching those shows on the weekends. The way investigators look at crimes, explore the evidence, and find the guilty parties.
I love to travel, I would like to see a lot more of the world. I want to see Alaska and Hawaii, I have been to most of the other states. I have not been up the East Coast - Vermont, New Hampshire that area. Which is sad, because I have been in Delaware almost twenty years, but I didn't have the get out and do things spirit until a few years ago. I let my fears and what I thought were obligations to people hold me back. I didn't follow my dreams. That is a regret that I have had. You need to follow your heart. I was not encouraged to follow dreams as a child, you needed to be practical. Sometimes you need to believe in Pixie Dust.
I attended Eastern Kentucky University for a while, wish I had graduated. My life would probably be different. Wish I had the courage to pick a different major, like computers.
If I somehow came into money, I would travel, pay off the rest of my bills, and then give some to my nieces and nephews. Fix up my house some, and give my cats a more spoiled existence than they already have.
I love to sleep late on weekends. I love to shop. Although with the economy the way it is, a lot of that has been put on hold. I love to eat out at restaurants, I love to experience new things.
I have been to Germany, and Spain courtesy of the military. I worked in the control tower in Germany, taxiing the aircraft, we didn't depart them, due to the fact that the Germans controlled the flight line since it was a German airport.
I worked in Spain in a Personnel capacity, we greeted the new people to the base, got them set up with a place to stay, and processed them into the base. Set them up with appointments, and processed their records. Also kept track of all personnel that entered and exited the base. A nice break from what I had been doing. It was stress free. It was a nice chill experience. I ...Expand for more
usually work on such a high energy, keeping things moving pace, that it was a nice change.
I really miss the weekends when I was in high school. We would go see my grandmother in Beattyville Kentucky. I could go walk around the farm, we would go to church, and out to eat. She was always really good to her family. I remember her always telling me that I didn't eat enough. She would take us to the grocery store and have us pick out food that we wanted to eat. I remember her showing me how to make meringue for a chocolate pie that she always made for us. You had to use really cold water in order for it to rise to her specifications. She always was up early and made breakfast. She made eggs, and sausage. It's a wonder I didn't weigh three hundred pounds. Oh the days when the metabolism was off the charts. I remember the trips to Natural Bridge. I loved it there. We would go eat at the Lodge and get the buffet.
I want to go to Italy one day. I want to see the fountains, and to take a gondola ride. I love Italian food, pasta , pasta, pasta. The hazlent chocolate is also good. And of course cheese. I love cheese.
I have learned that you have to appreciate what you have. Life could always be worse. You have to appreciate the fact that you have your health.
I have two cats that I love so much. They are the spoiled chldren. Sleep with me or close to me every night. Beauty is a small black and white cat. She weighs about 6 lbs. with a full tummy. Buffy is a orange tiger, he is a heavy boy. I almost lost him due to the fact that his kidneys were blocked, due to the cat food. I got him to the doctor in time and they saved his life. He is so funny. He is the more cuddly of the two. They both talk to me, Beauty will scream and wake you up when she wants her breakfast. She used to wake me up by patting me on the eyelids when she was a baby. Buffy more talks when you move him from a place, or he wants to be petted. My life would be so different without them. They give such love, well when they want to. They are still cats after all, and they operate on their own agenda.
I used to love to read, I still do when I get the chance. I love funny movies. Not into the horror stuff. I love to watch the travel channel, and the food network. I love to watch cooking shows, and I can cook when I want to. That is the key, when I want to. I dont' feel the urge that often.
I would love to go spend time in the outdoors. We used to camp out some when I was a kid. We used to go fishing some. Not too much into the fishing. I would love to have one of those RV's a medium size one, and to go cross country to camping sights. To hook up to the power. I don't mind being a little on the edge of roughing it, but I still need my hot shower, and blow dryer. Guess it is the princess in me. Of course the cats wouldn't appreciate roughing it They like their air conditioning and soft sofas. They sleep on the beds. They have their own beds, but of course the human ones are better.
