Jackson's Story
Life
Jackson Felder is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. In his second year of Masters courses as a music performance major with choral conducting emphasis, Felder studies conducting under Dr. Kent Hatteberg. In 2000, he graduated summa cum laude from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where he maintained a 4.0 grade point average. After earning a Bachelor of Music degree and a Texas teaching certificate for all levels of instruction in music, Felder has continued his studies in music education by enrolling in post-baccalaureate studies at Sam Houston State University working toward certification in Kodály pedagogy. l honor societies Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Chi, and Golden Key, which awarded him the Golden Key National Honor Society Undergraduate Scholarship. Felder is an alumnus of the Zeta Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity and served on the board of directors of the Huntsville Childrens Choir. As a member of the Bach Choir of Huntsville, directed by his former vocal instructor Dr. Wayne Barrett, Felder performed as a bass-baritone soloist in numerous sacred cantatas of J.S. Bach, including Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4. His solo appearances include the role of Christ in the Matthew Passion of Heinrich Schütz, Pilate in the St. John Passion of J.S. Bach, Bachs Peasant Cantata, BWV 212, W.A. Mozarts Requiem, and a complete performance of Franz Schuberts Winterreise. After receiving his Masters degree, Felder hopes to return to Texas to begin a career as a choral director at the secondary level.
