Jacque's Story

College Best memories include painting in the studio all night drinking coffee. Also remember clearly working on a litho the night John Lennon was shot. Also going to Guadalajara summer school and studying painting with Bruce McGrew. I sure miss him. I remember being in Sam Scott's beginning painting class. We went to see the sun rise and the moon set and painted it. It still hangs on my wall. I don't make a living as a painter but I am forever changed by those years. I will always view the world as an artist. I won't forget the photography studios with the French photographer when we all went out to the desert to shoot nudes. I'm hoping to get high tech and get back in photography. I wouldn't mind doing darkroom stuff on a computer rather than in that cave of a darkroom with all the chemicals. And there is something about Russian and Greek icons that are luring me back into painting. I itch to paint and feel the brush on the canvas and smell the linseed oil. Now my paintings are done in words in sermons or writing articles and sometimes in prayers for the dying. After College I backpacked through Europe with Russell Roeding. That was a memorable time. Russell and I went different directions then. He went to El Salvador in the Peace Corps and I went to CA to work on a Pure Polish Arabian horse farm. I ended up writing a children's book for the Grand Canyon called "Where Do I Look, A Child's Guide to the Grand Canyon". It still sells there. I rafted down the Colorado a couple of times on private rafting trip...Expand for more
s. Backpacked a lot in those years. Finally volunteered as a Campus Minister Assistant. During that time I worked for Los Trepedores, group homes for mentally handicapped adults, then as a houseparent for a halfway house for abused kids and runaways. Decided to go back to school. I started Seminary at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in PA. It's now called Palmer Seminary. Interned as a Chaplain for a home for emotionally abused youth. Great experience.I'll never forget taking about 8 innercity youth camping in the Algonquin mountains. I graduated from Seminary in '89 was called to First Baptist Church (American Baptist) in Dayton OH as the youth pastor and Urban Outreach Coordinator. Served there for 7 years. Tough times and lots of learning. Met and married Tom Francis there. We moved to Colorado Springs Colorado for my job as Associate Pastor. Tough years followed. Finally I left that job and became a Chaplain for a retirement community. Wonderful healing experience for me. During that time my kids were born and I was able to work part time while Tom worked in Audio Visuals. I transitioned into hospice work until my mother died in 07 and decided to take a break to grieve. Now I am serving as a full time Associate Pastor at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Best job I've ever had. I love being in my 50's. My kids keep me young. And although I miss "horsing around" with my equine pals I am still very involved with the rescue in town and competing in agility with my Border Collie, Rikki. Life is good.
