James's Story
School
After graduating high school, I completed my BSEE from DeVry Tech in Dallas, Texas. Directly following, I was recruited by a government research laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Four years later, I took a leave of absence from the labs to pursue an MSEE from the University of New Mexico, graduating in 1982. Directly following graduation I accepted a position with an aerospace engineering firm in Albuquerque where I spent 25 years in various engineering positions, my final position being Chief Engineer, Space Flight Systems with Goodrich Aerospace. During this time I met many contacts throught the industry, and in May 2007 I accepted a position with Moog Inc in East Aurora, New York. My position was Albuquerque Site Manager. We were a group of 9, looking to expand to 15 in 2010. In 2022, Moog closed Albuquerque office, after which I accepted a position of Engineering Director with Management Sciences Inc, a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR). During my employ, Moog Aircraft Group in Torrance, CA contacted me offering a position as Sr Electronics Systems Engineer, working remotely. I started this j...Expand for more

During my motorcycle racing career, I had 2 serious crashes at 160MPH+. The first crash was in Sturgis, SD. My left femur was snapped & I spent 2 weeks & 2 surgeries in Rapid City hospital. This was the summer of 1990. During a surgery, I received a blood transfusion. Ten years later, my liver function was poor. This led to a diagnosis of Hepatitis C. I tried the contemporary drugs, interferon & ribavirin, but the virus would not yield. Fast forward to 2014, while being screened for a liver transplant, I was diagnosed with liver cancer. After a round of chemo, the cancer returned in 2015. Once again, I was treated with chemo. Waiting for a suitable doner took over 2 years, but on January 7, 2016 I received a new liver. I have regained all normal function and am eternally grateful to the family who donated their loved one's organ. I am still working in the aerospace industry, and have replaced my previous life with a family, now with three wonderful grandchildren. In 2017 we adopted our grandson Colton, and life has never been better. I'm 67 (in 2023) chasing a 7 year old & loving every minute...
