Classmates.com lists me as attending Oak Park Elementary between '47 and '51, but that's wrong, and I can't figure out how to change it, I only attended Oak Park Elementary in Traverse City two years from the fall of 1945 through the spring of 1947 when I was between the ages of 7 and 9. For a while I had a job selling the Record Eagle newspaper door-to-door downtown, and I used the money I made to buy comic books at Eddies Grocery which was across the street from our house on Front Street. I have wonderful memories of our time in Traverse City. For one thing, I played cowboy with a friend named Roland and we used an empty chicken coop in our back yard as our ranch. This was inspired by the Durango Kid cowboy movies I attended at a downtown theater. For another, I would frequently take long walks with our two dogs in nearby vacant lots and woods -- there were lots of them in those days. I remember several things from Oak Park Elementary.
