James's Story
I was a total nonentity at Messmer. I went on to get an electrical engineering degree from Marquette. I worked for Ac Spark Plug in the aerospace industry until '63, including a year out at Edwards AFB in Cal. on a missile test program. I got married in '61, had a daughter in '62, moved to South Bend Indiana IN '63, had a son in '64 and another in '68. Moved to Bloomington, MN in '74. I worked at Honeywell for two years representing Rockerdyne for the development of the software for the Space Shuttle. Never saw a flight, but did see the firing ...Expand for more
of two of the main engines. When the project moved to Florida, I joined Honeywell. Had a heart attack in Aug. of '92, and another in July of '94. Retired from Honeywell in Jan. of '00. The stock market immediately started to decline. I told myself not to worry since I had a couple of two to three years of cash on hand. A couple of two to three years came and went, and so did my cash. Faced with the choice of converting my paper lesses to real losses or going back to work, I went back to work, and retired for the second and last time in Jan. '06.
