James's Story
Life
I was a member of the first class to graduate from West High School. In fact,we had attended Denmark High part of our last year. I spent four years in the U.S.Air Force after graduation.
After my four years in the U.S.Air Force,I got married to Reopa Staten,who was also a graduate of West High School. We have four children, five grandchildren, and two greatgrand children.
I retired from United Parcel Service after twenty eight years, and now I am enjoying the best time of my life.
Military
I joined the U. S. Air Force May 15, 1956 right out of high ...Expand for more
school. I spent four weeks at Lackland Air Force Base for the start of basic training. I spent the next six months at Lowry Air Force Base where I attended Tech School and completed basic training. I saw one of the last B-36's fly out of Lowry Air Force Base. I spent the rest of my time at Westover Air Force Base and I had several flights on a B-52.
I was stationed at Westover Air Force from January 3, 1957 to May 14, 1960. I was on flying status from September 1959 until I got out. In March, 1960 I flew to Morocco, Africa on a B-52, and spent a week there.
