James's Story

After graduating from Magnolia in 1960, I moved to Bossier City and worked for 2 years then joined the Navy in 1962, did boot camp in San Diego, then spent rest of my time in the western pacific and southeast asia. I came back to Oil City, La., and lived with my mom and dad and worked in Shreveport for a year, met and married my first wife and had a daughter, the marriage lasted for 11 years, I got a divorce and moved to Haynesville where I worked for Halliburton, I met my wife in Magnolia where she was attending SAU, Mike Lewis is married to her sister so he and I are brother-in-laws. After three years I left Halliburton and a friend of mine from Magnolia (Sammy Otwell)was in Beaumont, Tx. working for Baker Oil, he got me to come down and I went to work for them, we loaded up and moved to a little town 25 miles north of Beaumont called Silsbee and have been there ever since. My wife Peggy finished her schooling at Lamar University in Beaumont and has been in Education for 24 years. We have a yours, mine and our's family, Peggy had a son, I had a daughter and we have a son ...Expand for more
and daughter together, they all live within 6 to 8 miles, we have five grandkids, 2 boys, 3 girls. I quit Baker after 15 years and went into Law Enforcement and Corrections, I spent about 3 years with Polk County Sheriff's Dept., (Livingston , Tx.) then came back home and went to work for Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept. I retired on June 28th of 2008, I went back to work for them in November of 2008 and retired again in August of 2010. While I was still living in Shreveport I went back to school on my GI bill and graduated from Baptist Christian College(small Baptist College)in 1974 with a BA in Business Administration, with the intention of going into the Management Program with GE who I was working for, six months before graduating the bottom fell out, Mr. Carter was President and the economy went south and GE cut out all the schools I got discouraged and quit GE (another story). Anyway I have been blessed and seemed to have made the right choices and have no regret's, I have been blessed with a wonderful wife, children and grandkids. Love&God Bless James
