James's Story
Went to Henderson Community College fall semester of 1971. Joined the US Navy December 27th of 1971. Went to San Diego CA for boot camp. Graduated from boot camp March 1972. Went to Navy A school to become a Quartermaster (navigation). Completed school and received orders for first duty station which was the USS Rathburne home ported out of Pearl Harbor Hawaii. The ship left in July 1972 for a WestPac deployment. We were ordered to the Gulf of Tonkin and was stationed off the coast of Vietnam. There, we engaged the North Vietnamese in combat. The ship returned back to Pearl Harbor in May 1973. I remained in Hawaii till I was discharged from the Navy as a QM2 in Dec 1975. I moved to Vancouver WA which became my home of resident. I still live there today.

to many foreign countries and throughout the US for the Navy. I was activated in January of 2003 and sent to Iraq for combat duties during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I returned back home in July of 2003. I retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 2004.
My civilian side had me working for the US Post Office. I was hired as a Letter carrier in 1977. I have three sons and as they grew up we enjoyed the many outdoor activities the North West offers. Snow skiing, back packing, camping, white water rafting, fishing, hunting. We traveled throughout the North West going to the beaches, the mountains, and the deserts. I continued working in Vancouver WA as a letter carrier until I retired from the Post Office Feb 2013. I'm now enjoying my eleven grandchildren and getting to do some of the same things with them.
