James's Story

Life After graduation from Overton High School in 1996, I attended the University of Memphis where I majored in Biology. During college, I worked several jobs that involved animals including working as a Butterfly keeper at the Memphis Zoo and as a research assistant studying rat snake ecology. After graduating from the U of M in 2001 with my B.S. in Biology, I moved to Knoxville, TN where I continued working with animals as a keeper in the reptile department at the Knoxville Zoo. two years and have since returned to Memphis to pursue graduate studies at the U of M. I will be working on my Master's degree in Teaching and will probably be working as simultaneously as a high school biology teacher. After completing my M.A.T., I plan to eventually return to a career in the zoo field and work toward conservation of endangered species. I also plan to one day pursue a Ph.D. in the biological sciences, hopefully at a university out west where I can spend my free time fly-fishing.
