James's Story
Life
My life since HS? In order, then: college; wife; son; job;
daughter; separation; divorce. 27 years in the same company, 21 years with the now-ex. I'm either stable or boring, depending on whether you're a glass-half-full or half-empty sort.
The longer version is, well, longer.
I started college in 1980. Met my future wife. Bought a motorcycle, got hit, and was forced to take a year off to recover. We had a son, which put me back another year, and I finally graduated in 1986 with a BS in CompSci.
Started working for OGE in late 1986, been there ever since. In late 1993 I started working on their geospatial database and I've been primarily concerned with geospatial systems and integration since that time.
In the meantime we had a daughter, my marriage fell apart, and I'm currently divorced. Ah, the life of a single 40's something in the 21st century. Wow! No, really. Again finding myself single at 50+, I'm singing the same song, different verse.
In my spare time I read technical articles, fiction, true crime, and non-fiction works. Recently I've been brushing up on robot...Expand for more
ics and I'm planning to build/program a few. Since I eschew TV I have more spare time than some, less than others.
And I still succumb to sesquipedalism.
School
In High School I was long-haired and somewhat reclusive. Didn't do sports, drugs, FFA, or anything like that. Read a lot (a habit I keep to this day), went out some, and would like to eventually email a few of you. ;v) If you'd like to email me, well, I'll never see it because I'm a non-paying member of the site.
College
Ah, to recall those golden years of college life.
Let's see, majored in CompSci, minored in Math.
For a couple of those halcyon years I was a computer lab assistant.
Partying, drinking, recreational drugs? Not me, not then, not now.
Workplace
3M - I worked with Ray Smart, documenting his Macro-11 assembly code for the company. That guy burned his own boot ROMs. Boy, was his last name on target.
At OGE I've worked on the billing system, the payroll system, was in the short-lived business computing research group, and have been working with the geospatial system since the project proof-of-concept days.
