James's Story

Life BAHS '76. BSME OU '80. Oil patch engineer - Cities Service's Hugoton Gas & Powder River Hartzog Draw CO2. Married Janet Walters, OKC, '82. MSPE OU '84. Arco GOM completions engineer from Houston. Son '85. Caught in '86 oil bust. Family built & exported PC's to France but margins narrowed. Daughter '87. Consulting ME at Texaco's Port Arthur Chem Plant, then groundwater computer modeller & occasional reservoir engineer. TXPE '89. Azerbaijan Energy Sector Study w/ World Bank in Baku then entrepreneur Buenos Aires '92. Chile, Uruguay. Went broke in '94. Family back to Houston again. Consulting Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru. Venezuela '97-'98 pokin' horizontal postholes in the lake (Lagoven/Pride 1&2). Joined Marathon HSE '98: Houston. Temp assignments in Sakhalin Island & Egypt. Mainly Gabon '99-'00 (see picture from FSO Madiela helideck w/ MOPU Tchatamba A & MODU High Island 9 in background). Spent most of 2001 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, getting permits & planning Emergency Responses for Annapolis G-24 deep water well (1678 m) near Sable Island (discovery Aug '02). Spent 2002/3 trying to permit Tijuana Regional Energy Center (LNG/Power/Desal). In 2005, on Oasis' Libya re-entry team until transfer to Gas Technology Dept to build Gas-To-Fuels plant in 2006. Interim HSE Lead for Oasis Partners re-entry to Libya. HSE Lead on Tijuana Regional Energy Center, a $1.6B proposal with 750 MMcfd LNG import terminal, 30” gas pipeline, 1200 MW power plant, & 20 MMgpd seawater desalination plant. In-country permitting Annapolis G-24, Nova Scotia’s first deep water gas discovery. Six months in-country support for 40K bopd Tchatamba MOPU/FSO operation near Port Gentil, Gabon.
