James's Story
Life
After graduating from high school, I attended Cal State Fullerton (Orange State at the time). I wasn't focused during my college days until in 1969, I completed a BachelorÂs in Bible at Biola University in La Mirada, married the most wonderful best friend in the world, began teaching math and coaching baseball for a private school in the South Bay, received a low draft lottery number, and reserved a future officer training position in the Air Force. Twenty-three years later, I retired from the Air Force, and Sandie and I moved to the beach in Oceanside. artment (but Memphis does noÂt have a beach), then at Northrop Grumman on the B-2 bomber program until it moved its training and engineering team to Palmdale. Sandie and I have a biological daughter, a speech therapist, and seven adopted children ranging in age from 48 to 30. They have made us grandparents 17 times and all are doing reasonably well (Âat least they keep in contact with us).
School
I was shy, perhaps fearful, in high school, was young for my grade, was athletic (but too timid to try anything except baseball and cross-country), was an academic, graduating 4th in my class. Still I believed I was one of the least known on campus. I spoke at the graduation ceremony and I sometimes wonder how many graduates asked, "Who is that guy?"
