James's Story
Life
I was born in June 1968 in Fort DevonÂs, Massachusetts the son of an Army Officer and a Registered Nurse. Until the time I was 8 my father was stationed all over the United and places around the world. Some of the more memorable places I have lived include San Jose, California, Syracuse, New York, and Kinshasa, Zaire.
My family finally settled down in Fort Washington/Oxon Hill, Maryland area where I graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1986. I later attended Howard University where I pursued a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I left Howard in 1991 to work for AT&T. While at AT&T I had the opportunity to travel to several locations around the country on a regular basis. I also worked on several interesting projects and met several interesting people. I began my career at AT&T in a technical sales support position and ended up in a technical position that allowed me to work on computer servers and networks during the early stages of what is now known as the modern Internet. In May of 1993 I left AT&T to begin my career at Verizon.
In the years I have been at Verizon I have had several management, technical and customer support positions such as specialist, team leader and systems planner. These positions have allowed me to gain a deeperl understanding of corporate life at a fortune 1...Expand for more
00 company. My positions at Verizon have allowed me the privilege to travel throughout the Unites States and internationally. In my current position at Verizon and most of the positions I have had dealt in some way with computer technology. I believed it would be beneficial to get official credentials in the computer and IT field. Hence, I recently decided to return to school to pursue a degree in computer and information science from the University of Maryland.
I currently reside in Fort Washington, Maryland were I am married and the proud father of three boys, one born in June of 2001 one in June of 2003 and most recently February 2005. I am currently a member and active in the Consortium of Information and Telecommunications Executives, the South Potomac CitizenÂs Association, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Upsilon Pi Epsilon honor society, National Society of Black Engineers, the Oxon Hill Bicycle Club and Fort Foote Baptist Church.
Attempting to raise my children properly, be a good husband, a good employee, stay active in civic and professional organizations and go to school all at the same time is a challenge to say the least. To unwind from this madness I enjoy music, movies, going to clubs, bike riding, drinking good cognac and smoking good weedÂ
