James's Story
After having failed to update my Story since a revision 10 years ago, I decided it was time!LOL!
I did undergraduate work at University of Cincinnati A&S and graduated with B.A. Biology in 1977. I was elected to Phi Beta Kappa that year. I completed a Medical Degree at University of Cincinnati in 1981.
After a residency at The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati in 1984, I started a private medical practice in Bethel, Ohio (Clermont County). I moved to Clermont County in 1984 and lived there until 2002.
I was married in Dec. 1990 (one month before Desert Storm) and had two step-sons and one daughter from this marriage.
After I divorced in 2001, I moved back to Cincinnati the next year. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati and moving to Clermont County II never would have dreamed that I would return to Cincinnati, much less the Northside neighborhood! It did not have a great reputation 30 years ago, but now it's a thriving, growing community with lots of young professionals, artists, bohemians, gay/lesbian neighbors.. I have one child, Leah Mariko, who just turned 21 years old in earlier this month
I currently am the Medical Director of the Homeless Domiciliary at the Ft. Thomas facility of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. I also have been serving as Medical Director of the Clermont County General Health Distr...Expand for more
ict since 1989. I work part-time as a geriatric physician/Medical Director at several Greater Cincinnati nursing homes.
I still play my accordion and am a member of Squeeze Play (formerly known as the Jack Frost Accordion Band); this is a 20-piece band comprised of mostly accordions but also a very important brass and woodwind section, that plays locally at various events. We had played at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati for over 20 years and I have performed with the band in programs with Cincinnati Pops at Music Hall and at Riverbend Music Center.
My favorite place to visit is my parent's hometowns of Honolulu and Makawao, Hawaii.
I last visited Hawaii last December, 2012 but try to get back every couple of years.
My Father passed away last year after a long illness and my Mother finally moved out of the old family home in College Hill earlier this year and now lives in the Twin Towers Retirement community.
Currently I reside in Northside with a fellow Aiken Graduate, Deb Grauel, Class of 1972.
She has a daughter, Hope Sharon, who graduated from Univeristy of Virginia earlier this year with a degree in International Studies. My daughter, Leah Mariko, is a senior-to-be at Xavier University in Cincinnati with a study field of International Studies and minor in Asian Studies.
Looking forward to hearing from fellow Aiken grads!!!
