James's Story
See more on my face(book), or look on the web for my Amateur Radio Extra Class callsign K5KTF. Born in '67, lived east of Pittsburgh, until '85 when we escaped PA for NH at the semester break of '85 (mind you ... my senior year). Did WONDERS for my class ranking, let me tell you......(not that it was of any decency at PT...lol)
Off to the AF for about a year at Lowry in Denver, then back to the freezing northeast.
In '90, decided to thaw out and move to central TX, where I am now, nice and WARM :-)
I dont mind when it actually does snow here, as I know I just wait a day and it will all melt away without any shoveling necessary. I like the temperature to be above above 10..... CELSIUS! (or 50*F)
Still an avid Steeler fan amidst the Cowbum and Texan fans...(groan). Actually LOTS of Steelers fans here in the Austin area.
Got married (to one of them damn yankees...eek), had a son with her, then we split and found me a new (Texan--YEE HAAAWW :-) ) wife. 5 kids total, her 2 from 1st marriage, 1 from my 1st, and then 2 between us.
Our oldest boys are 17 days apart, same Dr, same hospital. I probably saw my current wife when I was taking my former in for checkups.....
Yes, Im still a geek, owning my own computer...Expand for more
-related company here north of Austin. I have also been doing the handyman thing when not being a geek, designing, building or fixing darn near anything.
In whatever spare time I find, I am active in Amateur (Ham) radio and ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service..Actually got elected as a WC ARES Board Member for '15/'16...) and the Broadband-Hamnet project (webmaster/web host/evangelist/application engineer). I usually work 20 meters SSB (still dont know morse code...) and the local 147.080, 146.64, 145.37, 441.6, and my own 444.625 repeaters.
I have antennas ranging from a 160meter dipole (for the 1.8-2MHz band) , 40m dipole, 80m and 20m loops, VHF, UHF and all the way up to 3.4GHz in the microwave bands. I do work "3"-land occasionally (PA, MD, NJ).
If anyone really wants to get ahold of me, My friend Google can find me for ya ---the first sentence in my bio.....
Unless I hit the lottery and never need to work again, you will probably never see me at either HS reunions (either PT or NHS), as I just dont get back up to the northeast too often (last time was moms funeral on New Years 2012/13). I just see no reason to leave Texas usually...
Really, the only thing I miss about Pgh is the Steelers! :-)
