James's Story
Life
Well, hello to all.
Let's see...Made it through high school, met a very few people I still know and maintain contact. My parents then moved to Bandera and I was off to college at Angelo State in west Texas and an interesting and eventful first year was had.
Second and remaining years I went to Sam Houston State. Majored in Law Enforcement and have done nothing in that line of work since graduation in Fall 1983. Was married right out of college, Jerri Lind and I had a fine son named David. Our marriage didn't last, though, too young I suppose.
I was married again some years later to a woman that quickly decided she liked the maintenance man better and asked for a divorce. I hadn't been moved out for a week and he moved right in. They remained together for some years till he passed in a traffic accident and she contracted cancer and passed in early 2009.
Then met a wonderful lady named Dianna Joyce and fell in love and we married for 11 years of happy, growing, faith-filled marriage. She has a daughter by a previous marriage that is a great lady that is teaching in Ft Worth now. On our anniversary of the 11th year we were in an auto wreck and I lost her, but heaven gained an angelic soul. I miss her terribly, but know she is happier than I can possibly imagine.
Along the way I've had alot of different jobs, from carpenter to AC installation, life insurance sales to fire alarm sales, post hole digging to retail stores.
Most of the time I worked in the corrugator industry, we made corrugated fiber board, (card board sheets,) sold them to box companies that converted them into boxes for pizza, tv's, who knows what. Stressful production environment eventually got to me, decided I didn't ne...Expand for more
ed that and I moved from the DFW area after 20 years to Bandera. Didn't know what I was going to do, but it wasn't going to be in a sheet plant anymore, (despite getting an offer in San Antonio an another one.)
Now I am a technical writer at a company that makes manuals and related books for many different industries, most involve aircraft.
My son has had quite a life, after high school, joined the Army, was sent to Iraq, was near a IED that blew up and knocked him off his feet, no obvious serious injury, lost hearing in one ear. Thank God he came home alive, those were terrible months for me. Scared to death I would loose him over there. He is now married and now I've 3 grand children and he has graduated from the Alamo Area Council of Gov'ts regional police academy in San Antonio. He has a great wife, they obviously adore those children and seem to be on the road to a great rewarding life.
My step daughter had her job in the bag before she even graduated from college, bought her own home, has her own department in the school she teaches, recently married to a great guy who a pilot.
Life is good, I've been blessed in so many ways I can't count. One of which is to have found love again. In what to me seemed an unlikely place. Nan was a friend over many years since high school. I really liked her back then, but she had just become a friend that I could call and we could immediately start talking as though it had only been a week since we last conversed. Now we talk about how we might spend the rest of our lives together. What a wonderful blessing she is to me, I can't wait so see what is going to happen next!!
