James's Story
Life
31 years as a teacher in Arlington. Wow! Teaching has been great for me, but I'm looking into masters programs in church education ministries now. I hope to retire in about 3-4 years and transition from the ministry of teaching to ministry within a church. Pray with me about this.
After graduating from Baylor I moved to Arlington to teach. I added a master's degree in educ. admin. at ETSU in 1990, but decided to stay in the classroom. I love to travel, camp, fish, and do generally anything outdoors. I like to attend plays, concerts, or other events in the metroplex. I am an ardent supporter of the Baylor Bears and can frequently be found taking the trek down I-35 to Waco.
School
Teachers were always an important part of my educational experiences. I grew to love teachers in elementary school and have always admired them. I guess that's why I have now taught for 26 years. Mrs. Channon, Mrs. Hanson, and Mr. Hazelwood made my elementary days good. Mrs. Jacobson, Coach Monroe, Coach Graham, Mr. & Mrs. Champion, and Mrs. Hawkins bring back lots of wonderful memories. My CHS days make me remember football with Coach Short, English with Mrs. Peak, social studies with Mrs. Hammett, and shop/mechanical drawing with Mr. Ryan. Of course, I can't fail to mention the math classes of Mr. Geter and Mrs. Coffey. I loved my experiences with Interact, Rotary Club, FTA, NHS, and FCA.

s, but not overwhelmingly fabulous. I think I saw most things through rose-colored glasses. That's nice, but I often wish I'd been more of a risk-taker. Life is full of great experiences and sometimes we have to be bold enough to grab the challenges. I would have gotten more from my school days if I'd been more driven to do my best or stretch beyond my comfort zones. High school work came easily to me, so I never really learned to push myself until later. Today, as a teacher, I seek to get my students to extend themselves and achieve at a high level. I challenge myself to keep learning from the past and reach new levels in whatever I do.
College
When I think of my years at Baylor University, I am reminded of many wonderful friends. I had three great roommates: Brad, Bill, and Clint. Memories: all the guys on fourth floor Penland and our 4 years of Christmas caroling to the girls' dorms, the close bonds with friends from Baylor Arms Apts, delightful times in Dr. Porter's choirs, intramural sports, raquetball and tennis on the old courts, BU sporting events, some wonderful dates, homecoming barricades, and lots more. Thank you, Baylor, for some fantastic years.
Workplace
I have had the privilege of teaching nearly 2000 4th and 6th graders in my 31 years of teaching. It is a challenge that I don't take lightly, so I tend to spend far too many hours working. It has been worth it, though. Teaching is a marvelous way to make a living.
