JD James's Story

Better known as "JD", a nickname I picked up due to having a similar likeness of John Denver, the folk singer, people I've known during those early years will not recognize my real name as listed in Classmates. I tried to emphasize my real name, but looking back, I now know it was an advantage. It kept me from being a "scapegoat" in many situations where my real name would have put me on the radar. But the disadvantage caused me not to recieve credit where credit was due, leaving no paper trail in my life's wake. BBC was still taking baby steps in its growth when I entered its enviornment. Many courses and classes I needed were doubled up for other festivities. Leaving little use of rooms for practice and study. The third floor of the men's dorm was reserved for instrumental/singing practice leaving many music students waiting in line for an empty room. There were curfews as well, simply, because students in the dorms needed to sleep. I lost many key people helping and counseling me. My counselor was murdered in her own home, the activities director had a heart attack, head of the religion dept. was "let go"...Expand for more
under suspicious circumstances, and the basketball coach's wife died giving birth to their first child, and fellow students "stabbing in the back" acts. It was a terrible struggle dealing with the stress and depression. I tried to release the pressure through many outlets only failing to fill the vacuum, thus lowering my grade average and losing my scholarship. I did graduate, however, double majoring with a couple of minors. I had fallen through the "cracks" in all the chaos scared and confused. "Why?!". I've not found the answer yet. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Dr. Pratt,(later became head of Religion dept.) because he walked with me after attending one of his classes to comment on a special talent I had demonstrated in his class. No other staff member had shown such a interest nor gave encouragement. I always wanted to be a song/scriptwriter when I grew up. My focus was to learn to compose music for my songs. Many distractions, temptations, medical problems and deceptive characters in this line of work took the "wind out of my sails", but not all was dark and hopeless.
