James's Story
I don't have much of a story..here's the Readers Digest version...
skipped my junior year in high school --some of you may remember that I was a Sophomore one year, a Senior the next--in hindsight, a mistake....
was still 16 (yes-16) when I started Cameron University. Majored in Criminal Justice with a minor in student-union (emphasis on billiards)
got married & discovered the meaning of true love--too late now--she won't let me out of the house to find it--DAMN!!
dropped out of college to work 80 hours a week
(insert--"begin 20 years of repressed memories" here)
job transferred to OKC
quit job
got better job
statistical success of justifiable homicide as a defense surprisingly low in this country--sank into deep depression
began program of self-medication for depression. beer sales soar.
Divorced! Received overwhelming calls of rejoicing & support from friends & family members. My kids asked me "why did you wait so long?" People started wanting to hang out at my place.
Divorce attorney transfers her children to an elite private school
(insert "20 years of repressed memories ends" here)
started new life as 40 year old divorcee--learned that 40 is the new 20
learned that the answers to some of life's questions can be found at the bottom of that next bottle...not all, but some...
discovered that a disproportionately large segment of the female population are attracted to salt & pepper hair. made mental notes of this.
learned that ingesting large quantities of fermented beverages can cause delusions of adequacy & frequently induces the urge to dance, sing karaoke, quote historical philosophers, & perform inappropriate mating rit...Expand for more
uals in public. blackouts & other unexplainable losses of time frequently precede such behavior.
GOD--in His infinite grace & mercy, made certain that I was in the right place at the right time--met Kelli.
Discovered that Kelli is a mental-health worker--my friends call it "divine intervention."
bought a nice house in Edmond.
paid final installment on divorce attorney's children's college education--my 401-k now resembles a 201-k
moved Kelli into my house--lived in sin.
discovered gay black men ALSO find salt & pepper hair attractive--beer sales plummet
married Kelli--my best friend, playmate, confidant, soul-mate, co-conspirator, etc etc--LIFE IS GOOD!
My kids & friends asked me again--"why did you wait so long?"
got settled into a great Church & was reminded that when I had abandoned GOD, he never abandoned me! Now I look forward to living in heaven with Jesus my eternal Savior. There will be joy, peace, a spectacular buffet, & UPS packages will never again arrive while I'm at work...
became a grandpa! LIFE IS GOOD!
now I tell my grown children (I have 3--a stepson & a daughter from the 1st marriage & a stepdaughter from my FINAL one).."You know, I remember a time when I could only DREAM about making the kind of money that I'm starving on now..." (wistfully looking toward the sunset for dramatic emphasis)
In a few short years, I will (Lord willing & the creek doesn't rise) retire early & work in the dog grooming shop full time with Kelli ( she owns her own dog grooming business in addition to working full time )
Life is truly good, but the afterlife is better when you know your Savior lives...
That's my story...what's yours?
