James's Story
Life
2 weeks after graduating, I entered the USMC & spent 1 year south of DaNang, Vietnam with an MP Rifle Company. Returning in Jan. '70 to Cincinnati, I held short-term jobs, before I eventually moved to Phila., PA & entered Reformed Episcopal Theological Seminary in '74 to study for the ministry (my father's alma mater), graduating in '78. I married in '76 & had a daughter in '77. Spent only five years in ministry before health & other personal reasons forced me to resign in '84. Had served 3 churches (Methodist) in Wisconsin, Penna., & finally Mass. Later, I worked as a commercial pest control svc. tech.; sales rep for a coffee roasting co.; & paging co. acct. exec. But in '89, I was diagnosed with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) & could not work again until '96 (developed Type I diabetes '75, due to Agent Orange exposure in 'Nam). Held the following positions: magazine distributor merchandiser, reading glasses field rep & helped run a SportsMemorabilia/Autograph business. Currently, I'm making the attempt to do freelance internet marketing. I did a stint as the ghost writer and editor of a self-help book that was published in February 2002. Although I was divorced in '91, I remain very close to my children: Sarah (27) made me a grandfather on my 50th birthday (Janna Rose, now 4)and currently live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Man, do I miss 'em :( Matthew (24), a Vo-tech high grad, is now an HVAC technician & got married in August'02 and his wife, Natascha(27),had a boy,...Expand for more
Evan, on 10/26/03; Rebekah (22) grad. f/Gordon College, north of Boston, May '04; Amy (20) also attends the same school as a junior. As the "twelveth man out" on the roster, her soccer team finished the '02 season ranked among the Top 20 in NCAA Div.III; Jeremy (17) is a Senior in H.S. Unlike me, in case you don't remember ;], my children have been honor students, top athletes in softball, soccer, lacrosse, football, basketball, cheerleading; captains & sportsmanship award winners, all-stars; one a Homecoming Queen & the other a Princess. Not bragging, but they're the best kids any parent could have! I love them more than I have room to say!
The best to all of you & please write and let me know about your life, too! Come on, any takers? So far, only a handful!
Military
Joined the Marine Corps while still in high school on the 120 day delay program and left for boot camp two weeks after graduation. I was sent to Vietnam in January 1969, following Advanced Infantry Training and and specialty training in my MOS area, at Camp Pendleton, CA and spent the first month assigned to Camp Books, Force Logistics Command base north of Danang for one month of perimeter guard duty. Then I was transfered to Charlie- Company, 3rd Military Police Battalion, as a Security Guard on the III. MAF Bridge connecting east and west Danang on the Sanhang River, where I spent the remainder of my tour, patrolling surrounding villages and participating in squad night LP's and ambushes, until January 1970.
