James's Story
I went to the Univ of Utah on the GI Bill.
I was one of the originators of "Unit Dose" Drug delivery system. This system is used in almost all hospitals in the US and most nursing homes. I was active in establishing Crisis Clinics and "Drug Abuse" programs. I wrote Pharmacy Laws for Unit Dose for some of the Western States. Last 20 years devoted to investments and I have filled in my time as a writer of short stories which I have shared on the internet on Facebook and the LinkedIn websites where I maintain blogs. I spend my days with comments on public interest, finance, and the stock market and politics and my favorite topic of the history of the old west and their treasures.
We have three children, all engineers. our sons work as Petroleum, and Mechanical Engineers and our daughter is a Civil. Engineer My wife Carolyn was known internationally by her graphic art with greeting card designs. Many were used in periodicals. Some of her work can be seen on the internet under her name Carolyn Summers. Her work earned numerous awards Her artistic efforts and all of her graphic art started after she retired. Being the Co-Editor of our Yearbook started the creative side of her 25 years as an artist. She spent her working career as an Accountant and as a consultant in the certification process for private Company's to become public.
1 Granddaughter a graphic artist 1 Grandson, who will be six years old in September. He adds some spark to my life now that I am 84 years old, dealing with Parkinson's Disease and PTSD. Both my wife and I have had to deal with health issues for some time. The last four years have been kind of tough. I shattered my lower left leg so I have kept the Orthopedist,s busy in Boise, Idaho. Now spend most of my time on the computer. Thank God I learned how to type at Granite. Typing kept me out of trouble a couple of times when serving in the Army.
My wife the former Carolyn Butterworth and I were married for 62 years. Carolyn passed away on the 30th of May 2017 after a long battle with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma We agreed that we have had a dynamite life. We saw the world. I was in the Army for 3 years. Had the statewide duty in California and then a year in Nuremberg, Germany. I will admit that the Military changed my life. The assignments and the security clearance I had were meaningful and appearing before a Congressional Committee on Aging gave me experiences which enhanced my shift into Medical Marketing almost a forty-year working career. I saw enough of the World and the United States for Carolyn and I to decide to retire to Idaho. We buil...Expand for more
t our Dream Home and live, outside Boise near the Boise River. Our backyard borders on a large pond. There is a considerable amount of wildlife and large numbers of waterfowl, which we enjoy listening to and watching. We decided at an early date to spend the rest of our years in Idaho and our final resting place will be in the Military Cemetery near Eagle Idaho. Carolyn was adored by her family. She was truly a remarkable person. Her Art Work was appreciated by the thousands of people who corresponded with her over the years, Her personality seemed to shine through her talent and her creations. She will be remembered for her Beauty, Intelligence, warmth, and generosity and had the unique ability where anyone who met her considered themselves to be her best friend. I loved her for 67 years so far and miss her every day that I am alive without her. Oh, she was a Grand Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, She was the most remarkable person I have ever met. I love and miss Carolyn each day that I still draw a breath. I always thought my retirement years would be spent fishing and reading and writing.. I was fortunate enough to have developed an interest in the stock market during my senior year at Granite. I had an Uncle who was President of the local stock exchange and he taught me the rudiments of the stock market. I played the market all of my working years The Dot Com Bubble in the market turned my "Hobby" as Carolyn called it, into an obsession. My exposure to the components of computers and cellphones exposed investment opportunities for high technologies and my retirement years have been far from anything I had envisioned. As Carolyn said, "Our lives were never boring". I had learned how to use a computer in my late 50's, and combining my history in the stock market, The "Dream Home", I built for Carolyn, became a structure with the second floor devoted to Carolyn's interests and the downstairs office became my "Lair". Parkinson's Disease controls most of my life to a great extent however I have been able to control the terrible palsy component. I am able to use the computer and I will continue to drive my thought process until Parkinson's Disease "PD". stops me. I have been told my "Dementia" portion of the disease may be avoided as I contracted PD late in life. I refuse the choice of sitting in a rocking chair and watching the world pass me by and as long as I can think and type I will ask my Good Lord for maybe five more years. Thanks to the VA I will be able to spend my final years in my home and enjoy the warmth of Carolyn's Spirit that fills our home.
