James's Story
Life
After high school I attended Potomac State College for one year and then the University of Montana for three years. I joined the Army in January of 1983 and retired on October 1st of '06. I'm now a contractor working as a systems administrator at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan where I'll be working until November of 2009. I've been married to Cheri Northcraft for twenty-four years. She helped me in my decision to join the Army and has gracefully endured everything that comes with being an Army spouse. We have one son, Tait, who is 20 years old and a sophomore at Longwood University. We currently live in Alexandria, Virginia but hope to move back to Keyser some day. reer in the Washington, DC area within a three hour drive of Keyser. I've been stationed overseas with my family in Italy and Hawaii and I did a one-year tour by myself in Korea. I've also done temporary duty in Greece, Turkey, Germany, Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand, Russia, Denmark and Japan. I was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was a photographer for the first fifteen years in the Army but I switched to computers in 1998.
