James's Story
Life
* I remember being a member of the Fremont HS Cross-country team in my junior & senior yrs. I lettered both years. Loyd Ortez was our best runner. Mr. Cagle was our cross-country coach and I actually ran into him a few times - years later in the 1970's. * Mr. Cagle became Boys Principle at a high school down in the Hayward/Union City area - the last I saw of him - around 1978.
* I also remember fondly Ms. Keller, my Geography Teacher. She never could quite figure me out and told me as much. I believe Ms. Keller was also the head of the cheerleaders group. And I heard that she lived in Berkeley back in those days. I would certainly like to write her some day or call, and thank her for her help and guidance and because ...Expand for more
she paid attention to me during my HS years, which were difficult years back then.
* Since writing this, I have found out Ms. Keller died of cancer. I believe it was in 2000 she passed away. I should have contacted her years ago. Just to thank her for all her work and caring. Evidently, she loved cats and kept teaching right up to the end - almost. Per the retired Fremont HS secretary, Ms. Keller took many of her students on field trips across the nation (e.g. Washington DC) and helped pay for some of the students expenses out of her own pocket. That was Ms. Keller alright.
If there were more teachers like Ms. Keller, there would not be some many problems in our school system. I will never forget Ms. Keller! God bless her!
