James's Story
Life
Before WW2, my family was one of the first Black families in White Plains. I remember what I thought to be a small town as one of the happiest places Ive ever lived. My fondest memories was of living at 225 Grove Street before the projects. I really loved Rochambeau elementery school and mean old Ms Bostic.
When I moved and had to transfer to Post Raod Jr High School I had many good times, especially when I think of old friends like Frankie, Estelle, Sylvia, Melvin and Calvin Greenhill. Moving to NYC was devastating to me, for many reason, but mainly because I had to leave my beloved White Plains. My first day of school in NYC, I was walking and talking to Johnny Guzman and some unknown boy ran up to him, aimed a zip gun and shot him to death. Now just imagine, I was new, and did not know a soul and the one person that took the time to be nice was murdered before my very eyes and there was nothing I could do about it. ilitary and I got married at 18 1/2. Being obedient and loving my mother very much, I stayed in the military a bit longer than I wanted to to. Anyway, my marriage lasted about 18 years and after that I moved back to New York for awhile. I came back to California and have been here since 1978.
I've been happily married since 1980 and have a 20 year old daughter, Jaime who is currently attending my old school in Riverside, California.
At age 62, I'm really curious as to how everyone else's lives went. Please answer my emails, so far I've hear from Frank, Karen, George,Giles, and Betty Seawright. I'd like to hear from more of you.
Since this is a Bio, I have 4 children total. My older children are 42, 40, and 38. I have 6 grandchildren, and one great grand daughter, Yenon. I've been retired about 4 years, and spend most of my time doing voluteeer work for my congregation. I'm really impressed with some of the accomplishments of you guys. It's evident, that you all have worked very hard to achieve your goals
