James's Story
Life
After Elkhart, I attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas for four years. Following college, I went full-time as a magician, performing with Campus Crusade for Christ on college campuses both with Andre Kole and later filling in for him for a year. I Married Debbie in 1971 and we traveled together both with the magic and also as road managers for a comtemporary band called Under New Management. But, as the kids started, I got off the road and began working with newspapers in west Michigan. We ended up with four children: Megan is a Pediatrician and mother to Brynn Joy, Katie and Jackson Oliver. She and Ryan recently moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. l students at Savannah College of Art and Design. Britney has her degree in Biology, but opts to stay home with her four: Lynae Joy, Seth, Caleb and Grant. Daniel is married and he and Liz teach in Tucson, Arizona. Deb has her own business and we used to run a small Bed & Breakfast in Pentwater, MI. I am a recently retired publisher of a couple small community newspapers and a past member of the National Speakers Association. I am the past president of the Board of Directors and still serve on the Foundation Board for the Michigan Press Association, which represents about 300 weekly and daily Michigan newspapers. I play the same trumpet I had in high school, do creative writing. We enjoy International traveling (China, Japan, Italy, France, Switzerland,)and enjoying time with grandkids.
