A litte about me:
Reading is another way to travel. Growing up I would watch WTTW I still love PBS
It truly was my window to the world and so were books. This along with trips to museums, theatrical plays, operas, church service n good education has molded me into the person I am today I am full of culture n have been exposed to different aspects of the world which has influenced me tremendously
At theage of 7, I began acting; although quiet and shy I would almost always get the leading role of school plays.
At the age of 10, my teacher told me I had a gift of writing and pushed me to become Editor n Chief of the school paper. I did so for 5th n 6th grade and for all four years of high school.
At the age of 13 my grandfather mustve foreseen my love for visuals bought me an expensive camera and I started doing photography as an hobby. He saw my love for it and bought me an even better camera that same year.
At 14, I produced a segment for PBS's radio station WBEZ.
At 15, I was an intern at Jenner & Block law firm (one of the top companies in its field!) I did a great job and was offered a permanent position which I declined. Since first grade I wanted to become a lawyer but after my internship I was no longer interested. So for a year I was lost at what I wanted to become in the future. For that year I tutored at Mollison Elementry.
Then it dawned on me a...Expand for more
t age 16 that I had a love for visual concepts. My entire life I woud ask ppl, "dont you feel like you're in a movie?" I dont know why but that's how I felt. I would walk around with my hands up at eye level, looking at the world in frames. I remember I'd go home from school n watch dvd's but not the normal way; I'd always set it on the directors cut, so I can hear the process of how the film was made. I'd also watch MTV's and BET's making the video cause I was always interested in being behind the scenes. That year I co-wrote and co-directed a play with MTW (music theatre workshop). The play was great and sold out 3-days in a row! I began taking classes up north where they taught me the language of film.
At 17, I filmed my first documentary and the staff at Video Machette told me I was a natural and that because of my skills one day I'd make lots of money. At the time I didnt understand what the big deal was; I was just doing what came to me naturally.
At, 17 I did a weeky TV show for New Expression called NE TV which ran wednesday on CAN-TV.
At 18, I won a scholarship to attend Columbia College of Chicago and scored high enough to get into mostly advanced placement classes. I made a mistake on paperwork and ended up owing Columbia and started over at Chicago State University.
I became a mom at 21 and strayed way from camera work for a few years but my love for film was still at heart. I believed in myself and invested in myself and recently began back utilizing my skills. And now my dreams are quickly becoming a reality!
MY ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO START & RUN A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION FOR CHILDREN AGES 5-19, WHERE THEY LEARN HOW TO OPERATE CAMERAS AND EDIT FILM. COLLEGE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO INTERN AND MENTOR AS WELL. STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO RESEARCH PRIOR TO PROJECTS AS WELL AS WRITE A PROPOSAL. STUDENTS WILL ALSO ACT, LEARN ENGINEERING BUT READING, MATH AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS ARE FIRST TO BE ADDRESSED. MONEY WILL BE RAISED TO GIVE STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS, AND SOME OF THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT. PRODUCTIONS WILL ENTERED IN CONTESTS, SOLD TO RAISE MONEY FOR PROGRAM, AND HOPEFULLY SOME WILL END UP IN A MOVIE THEATER NEAR YOU!".
