Jamie's Story

Life I grew up in Hooksett. I left NH in 1973, living briefly in Hartford and then moved outside of Boston to the little seacoast town of Winthrop, MA. I was lucky enough to live RIGHT on the ocean for 4 years while there. In 1977 I came to Salt Lake City, Utah for a 3 week ski vacation and to visit my brother, Tim, and my sister, Tracey, who were living here at the time, and I've lived here ever since. SLC is one of the most beautiful places on earth. There are TONS of folks from New England living here, and I probably know more New Englanders here in Utah than I did when I lived in New England. I have a couple who reside next door to me who are from Derry and Londonderry. Salt Lake is a mecca for skiers, so that's why so many are out here, and, quite frankly, is the main reason that I have continued to live here.... it's the best skiing in the country, if not the world. I live 10 minutes from the ski area where my husband works, so it's very convenient and a very beautiful place to live and a great place to raise a family. We have a lot of avalanches out here and the winter months bring an annual snowfall of over 600 inches to our mountains. I live on the side of the Rocky Mountains, and overlook the entire Salt Lake valley. It's an incredibly beautiful place. I went to school at the University of Utah and graduated, cum laude, with a B.S. from the College of Health with my degree in Therapeutic Recreation. I worked for the State of Utah's Dept of Human Services, as a social worker, with adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities for about 20 years. One of my clients was Kim Peek aka "the Rainman", an autistic savant that Dustin Hoffman used as a "study person" to develop his role as Raymond Babbit in the movie. I left my job in 1999 and took about 4 years of...Expand for more
f to focus on being a mom. I now work for The American Academy of Professional Coders, where I am the Sales Manager. My husband, Steve, was born in St. Albans, VT but was raised in So. Deerfield, MA. We met here in 1980 while we were both working at Snowbird Ski Resort. He has continued to work there for the past 35 years. He was a forest fire-fighter during the summer months for many years for the US Forest Service, leading a 20-person "hot shot" crew. He is a tournament bass fisher, and travels a lot to all parts of the western US fishing in tournaments. We have one child, a son, who's name is Andrew Jon, but we call him Drew. He is almost 23 years old and is the greatest kid anyone could ever dream of having. He plays the guitar and bass, loves to snowboard and skateboard, is a retired altar server at our church, and is an honor roll student in school. He's very handsome and gifted in many ways. He is popular and funny and seems to have the world in his back pocket. He and his girlfriend are parents to identical twin girls born in April of 2009. We have 3 labrador retrievers, 2 black and 1 chocolate. We are outdoor enthusiasts, enjoying everything from skiing, camping, fishing, and snowboarding, to mountain biking and horseback riding. I would love to hear from any old friends who might remember me. Please DON'T look at my Central High yearbook picture for a reminder of what I looked like.... they put the WRONG picture in the book (an act I will never forgive them for) I have tried to include an old and an updated photo of myself for this website... Again, please feel free to correspond. Try going on to Snowbird.com to see pictures of the ski area where I ski and where my husband works... you'll enjoy this. Look at the live web cams to see why I left New England and stay in Utah.
